MINUTES HOT SPRINGS ARTS ADVISORY COMMITTEE February 13, 2024 12:00 PM 111 Opera Street, Suite A 1. Roll Call of Committee Members Committee Members present: Dale Blackwelder, June Simmons, Kara Gunter, and Eli Vega. Absent: Karen Wiley. Vacant Positions: 2. Staff: Anthony Whittington and Kathleen Fason. 2. Approval of the Agenda June made a motion to approve the February 13, 2024 agenda. Dale seconded the motion to approve the agenda with the addition. Motion passed. 3. Approval of the Minutes Dale made a motion to approve the December 12, 2023 minutes. Eli seconded. Motion passed. 4. Introduction of Guests 5. OLD BUSINESS: A. Café Artis Round 1 Discussion: Kathleen went over the Jury Selection page with the committee. After much discussion, it was decided to focus a second round on the top three artists chosen during the first round. If possible, the second round will be opened on Café before the next meeting. Kathleen will call each of the artists and discuss any questions that the committee has: Michael Warrick – need proposal Peyton Harshfield – will the sculpture be one dimensional? J.P. Childress – is he willing to make changes to his maquette? Have boy standing? Change out Fox for a Blue Heron? B. Equator Sculpture Discussion: Anthony explained about the difficulty in reattaching the repaired sculpture back onto it’s base. Dale said he will call the original seller to see what he suggests. C. Tri-Lakes Estimate for Car Plinth: Kathleen will call and get the estimate and have it at the next meeting. 6. Arts Advisory Committee comments: Kara inquired about the committee’s suggestions for a new location of the “Bird Feeder” sculpture. It needs to be moved from the field where the Velocity toddler pump track is going to be constructed this year. Dale’s suggestion of moving it to the Tranquility Garden was agreeable to all. Anthony will have Parks Maintenance add the task to their schedule. 7. Parks & Trails Director comments: Anthony explained that he will have staff at several of our most used parks for the Eclipse in April: Family, Entergy, BTP, HWP, Hollywood, and Wade. 8.
