MINUTES COMMUNICATIONS COMMITTEE Monday, February 24, 2020 Conference Room 1, 4th Floor 2000 Main Street Huntington Beach, CA 92648 Study Session - Regular Meeting - 3:00 PM LYN SEMETA, Mayor PATRICK BRENDEN, Council Member ERIK PETERSON, Council Member STAFF JULIE TOLEDO, Community Relations Officer MEETING ASSISTANCE NOTICE: In accordance with the Americans with Disabilities Act, services are available to members of our community who require special assistance to participate in public meetings. If you require special assistance, 48-hour prior notification will enable the City to make reasonable arrangements for an assisted listening device (ALD) for the hearing impaired, American Sign Language interpreters, a reader during the meeting and/or large print agendas. PUBLIC COMMENTS: To address the legislative body on items of interest not scheduled for public hearing, Request to Speak forms will be made available at the meeting and are collected by the staff or Sergeant at Arms. Some legislative bodies may provide different Request to Speak forms for public hearing items. Communications Committee MINUTES February 24, 2020 CALL TO ORDER Called to order at 6pm. ROLL CALL • Present: Brenden, Peterson • Staff Liaisons: Hopkins, Toledo PUBLIC COMMENTS • Resident Bob Wentzel provided updates on the Great Pacific Airshow. APPROVAL OF MINUTES • Minutes from February 2, 2020 were approved with no changes by Pat Brenden and second by Erik Peterson ADMINSTRATIVE ITEMS Financial Report Staff reviewed the current expenditures and balance remaining in the HBTV accounts. Programming Update Staff is developing the MyHB RFP to guide residents through this app. Staff proposed a contract with resident, journalist, and author of 6 books, Chris Epting, to develop the Hidden Huntington Beach show that focuses on local history. Staff will also review the filming and editing costs for each episode which are estimated at $1,500 (plus $4,500 for Goal to produce). The Councilmembers asked staff to negotiate a lower estimate. Councilmembers Brendan and Peterson approved the concept and requested that the city historian/archivist fact check the historical components. Staff will consider obtaining WWII veteran videos and converting them into a proper format for airing. Staff will search for a contact that can assist with this effort. Council suggested working with local high schools to develop 1 hour of content each week. Potential events that can be recorded and aired include the Marina Talent Show, football games (full games or highlight reels). Staff will review the content is ensure it is not problematic. KABC/4th of July Parade Update Staff presented information on various local parades and details of services provided within the service contracts. Staff would finalize the KABC contract with the provisions including the $15,000 donation to the 4th of July Parade and providing an uninterrupted copy of the parade coverage to play on Channel 3. Staff will finalize the contract with KABC for City Council consideration.
