MINUTES OF THE MEETING OF THE CITY OF HUNTSVILLE, TEXAS VETERANS AFFAIRS ADVISORY BOARD HELD IN LARGE CONFERENCE ROOM AT CITY HALL, 1212 AVENUE M, HUNTSVILLE, TEXAS ON THE 19th DAY OF APRIL 2018, AT 5:30 P.M. Members present: Wayne Keen, Liesa Hackett, Leta Reiner, John McManners, Leigh-Anne Stewart, Shane Loosier, Tom Fordyce, Bill Butler, David McBroom, Johnny Holland Members absent: Mark Robinson, Ashley Taylor, Fernando Chavez, Stephen Bright, Michelle Bright Guests present: Capt. Cody Holmes, Charlotte Oleinik, Capt. Matt Moates 1. CALL TO ORDER – Chair Keen called the meeting to order at 5:30 p.m. 2. DISCUSSION/ACTION The Board met to discuss, hear presentations and/or reports and potentially take action on agenda items. a. Approve minutes of last meeting - The March 2018 minutes were approved without objection. b. Hear reports from committee members American Legion representative Leigh-Anne Stewart spoke about the upcoming catfish lunch on Memorial Day. She also announced the club will be holding their annual BBQ on May 4th and 5th. SHSU ROTC Captains Holmes and Moates announced May 4th is Military Appreciation Day at the SHSU Men’s baseball game, with first pitch at 6:30 p.m. Capt. Holmes announced the ROTC award ceremony will be at 6 p.m. Friday, April 27th, at First Baptist Church, with awards and scholarships given to cadets. He added that a commissioning ceremony will be at 6 p.m. Friday, May 11, at James Olson Auditorium. Charlotte Oleinik reported on the success of the Muster held in March, noting there were over 2,000 visitors in attendance. She also reported the event was the biggest fundraiser in history of H.E.A.R.T.S. Veterans Museum. Oleinik said ROTC was vital to success. She added that the Museum’s annual Memorial Day event will be held at 6 p.m., with General Adrian Nettles as the guest speaker. Bill Butler reported We Are Stronger is showing at Magnolia Bible Church at 6:30 p.m. April 29, and is free to the community. Leta Reiner reminded the committee that the Veterans Graduation Ceremony for SHSU will be at 6:30 p.m. May 2nd, at the Walker Building. Board member Lt. Col. Mark Davis will be the speaker. The board voted that Keen continue as chair. c. Future items, projects, and proposals. – The next meeting will be 5:30 p.m. May 17th. d. Items of Community Interest – None to report. 3.
