MINUTES OF THE HUNTSVILLE ARTS COMMISSION MEETING
Thursday, September 10, 2020, 5:00 P.M.
The Wynne Home Arts and Visitor Center, 1428 Eleventh Street

Commissioners Present: Ann Hodges, Una Grace Nash, Paul Olle, John Escobedo, Jaspyr
Sanford, Rosalyn Kelly, Betsy Maloney
Staff Present: Sarah Faulkner, Sara Bonilla
I. Call the meeting to order: The meeting was called to order at 5:05 p.m. by Ann
Hodges.
II. Consider the minutes of July 2020: The minutes of the July meeting were approved
on a motion by Una Grace Nash and seconded by Betsy Maloney. All members
present approved, and the motion passed.
III. Consider the minutes of the August 2020 Special Session: The minutes of the August
special session were approved on a motion by Una Grace Nash and seconded by
Jaspyr Sanford. All members present approved, and the minutes were passed.
IV. Update and discussion of current Huntsville Arts Commission Projects.
• Pilaster Project on 7th St
o The remaining pieces will be completed and installed by September
30, 2020.
o Artist Patrick Richards is donating the final pilaster to the Wynne
Home Arts and Visitor Center.
• HAC Grant Projects for FY 19-20
o COVID-19 Impact form was sent to all organizations who received
funding.
o Organizations have until September 30 to submit all documentation.
o Full update will be delivered to Commission at the October meeting.
o Chuck Fields “Children’s Tent” contract-
▪ He purchased all supplies needed, but the events he usually
participates in were cancelled due to COVID 19.
▪ John Escobedo motions that the contract is extended with no
additional funds for this upcoming year, and it was seconded
by Paul Olle. All members present approved, and the motion
was passed.
o Old Town Theatre
▪ In the OTT HAC contract, it stated that a minimum of 5
productions would take place.
▪ COVID-19 Impact form stated that they were not affected
although they only completed 4 shows.
▪ The Old Town Theatre did not inform Huntsville Arts
Commission nor staff about the change to their amount of
performances.
▪ Huntsville Arts Commission collectively decided due to virus
not to take any action on this matter, and Sarah Faulkner stated
that she would follow up with OTT staff for an update.
V. Discussion of future Huntsville Arts Commission Projects
• The HOT funds timeline was introduced with upcoming workshop and
application deadline.
• The timeline had been adjusted due to revenue calculations.
• November 12 and 19 were set as dates of presentations and the follow up
meeting.
• The revised guidelines, adopted in July 2020, were reviewed, and the
Huntsville Arts Commission agreed to the numerical scoring system for
upcoming FY 20-21.
VI. Discussion of orientation/training requirements for board members
• The City Secretary will be visiting every board for training and will visit the
October Arts Commission meeting.
VII. Discussion of mural guidelines
• The discussion of the mural guidelines was moved to the October meeting.
VIII. Hear citizen input
• Mary Stringer, resident of Huntsville, addressed the Commission sharing her
input on current and future projects.
IX. Adjourn the meeting: The meeting was motioned to end at 6:19, and all members
present approved.
