Connecting Us - Sustaining Progress (CUSP)

CUSP Education Committee Meeting January 9, 2020 Idaho Falls Public Library The meeting was called to order at 6:34pm Members present: Aaron Johnson, Catherine Black, Tomm Larson, Cindy Ozaki, Marie Giraud, Pat Tucker, Margaret Wimborne Introductions Review of CUSP Kick-off Meeting Presentation on the Idaho Business for Education (IBE) by Aaron Johnson. (See the slideshow and handout for review.) The Lunch and Learn program is being piloted in two school districts in Idaho to create outreach to parents of students. Five employers in our community will participate in this program in the upcoming months. Recommendations for other employers that can host this program are helpful. Focus Areas and Priorities: Early childhood education, the work of IBE, Lifelong learning, continuing education and universities, the education challenges facing single parents and their children. Collaborating with the transportation and healthcare committees may prove beneficial in supporting education. Goals and Objectives: Look for ways to leverage work already being done and connect the dots with those organizations. Tomm Larson will communicate with United Way to learn what they are currently doing in the community. The next meeting was tentatively scheduled for Thursday January 30 th at 6:30pm in meeting room 2 of the Idaho Falls Public Library. Pat Tucker will be presenting on Early Education.
