GOLF ADVISORY BOARD MEETING MINUTES WEDNESDAY, MAY 24, 2017 7:00 P.M. ACTIVITY CENTER ATTENDANCE In attendance: T. Reinke, G. Denning, L. Rockwood, M. Spraktes, J. Landon, T. Hersh, B. Bugger, T. Lohse, J. Freeman, J. Graham, M. Austin, D. Griffith, R. Carosone, D. McCarty Not in attendance: J. St. Clair, G. Lattimore, A. Anderson, J. Veeneman, G. Weitzel, F. Sica APPROVAL OF MINUTES M. Austin motioned to approve the March 24, 2017 minutes. This motion was seconded by D. Griffith. All in favor and motion passed. NEW BUSINESS – M. AUSTIN  M. Austin introduced the subject of the forward tees. The board had an ample discussion about the tees including opinions from established and new golfers, their advantages and disadvantages, plus improvements that can be made at Sand Creek and Sage Lakes. It was agreed that forward tees will be the trend moving forward, though they may not be as popular with established golfers. There was some discussion of surveying the leagues at the end of the season to get their opinions. OLD BUSINESS – R. CAROSONE Carosone asked the board if they had any opinions or questions regarding the General Policies & Conditions. M. Austin requested to discuss the following subjects:  Hours of operation, electrical thunderstorms, dress code, push carts and the 10 restrictions of greens, motorized golf carts, outside food & beverage rules, errant golf ball policy, people starting on hole #10, Five-somes, improved wording for “care of course” signs, the consistency of the score cards, golf etiquette, etc. The board discussed these topics and made recommendations for improvements. STAFF REPORTS Women’s Association – L. Rockwood L. Rockwood reported on the following:  The league started in May with 101 members. They had about 40 members show on each Lady’s Day.  They had about ten new members this year (two who came from the Country Club). Working Women’s Association – A. Anderson (Not Present) Men’s Association – D. McCarty D. McCarty reported on the following:  Membership numbers up a bit this year.  Sponsorship sales were good and increased the amount of tournament payouts which in turn helps increase memberships.  He mentioned the candidates elected to the Hall of Fame.  He discussed issues with tournaments, and complaints of handicapping.  There was group discussion on how to increase tournament participation. Senior’s Association – J. Veeneman (Absent – Reported by D. Griffith) D. Griffith reported the following:  There are 135 members with 30 of them being new members. He advised that the poster advertising helped bring in new members this year.  They are working on pace of play with some ideas including timing it.  He discussed other concerns and issues regarding the courses and league. Junior Association – F. Sica (Absent) Manager of Golf Operations – T. Reinke T. Reinke reported on the following:  The budget as of the date of this meeting and it being 20K to the good.  The Capital Improvement Fund (after golf carts expense) is at 50K.  T. Reinke was named Merchandiser of the Year.  The restroom floors at Pinecrest were painted.  He discussed the plan to add a surcharge for carts to increase the Capital Improvement Fund.  We will know by the end of June if we get the grant for the Pinecrest irrigation system.  The Capital Improvement Fund was explained in detail. Pinecrest Maintenance – M. Spraktes M. Spraktes reported on the following:  The weather being ideal for maintenance of the course.  The irrigations problems have been identified and addressed.  Worm castin, fairway conditions, top dressing of fairways, etc. (in response to a question by T. Hersh)  The problematic irrigation system and the grant we are waiting for. Sandcreek Pro – J. Graham J. Graham reported on the following:  Two of the demo days that were held and upcoming ones.  Pace of play has increased because of the new cards.  Sandcreek Maintenance – T. Lohse T. Lohse reported on the following:  Asphalt work.  Improvements on hole #16.  The resurfacing of the path near hole #2.  New pump being installed.  Work on the irrigation system is constant.  The bridges are being resurfaced.  Fairways had ice on them earlier in the season which killed the blue grass and it was particularly bad this year. Sage Lakes Pro – G. Denning G. Denning reported on the following:  The Men’s Club Championship had 58 players.  Andy Hess was the champion.  The Lady’s Club coming up next. Sage Lakes Maintenance – J. Landon J. Landon reported the following:  The irrigation system is up.  New products purchased for the turf this year that work better.  Greens being fertilized twice already.  The removal of some trees and spraying of cattails.  They burned all twelve ponds, canals and ditches.  They fixed 30 sinkholes, and baited for voles.  Maintenance being done on seven new acres and the time it takes for this to be done. Motion was made to adjourn by R. Carosone at 9:00 p.m. and seconded by M. Austin. All were in favor. Next meeting will be held September 27, 2017.
