PARKS & RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING JULY 12, 2021 MAECK EDUCATION CENTER 12:00 Noon Members in Attendance: B. Combo, R. Nitschke, T. Hersh, M. Hill, C. White, J. Francis, J. Freeman, L. COMBO B. Combo called the meeting to order at 12:05 pm. APPROVAL OF MINUTES T. Hersh moved to approve the June 7th minutes and C. White seconded. All in favor. DIRECTOR’S REPORT – P. Holm P. Holm gave the 2021-2022 Parks and Recreation Budget Presentation to the commission that he was also scheduled to give to the Mayor and City Council later that afternoon. The presentation included the following topics:  The “Mission and Vision” of the Parks and Recreation Department.  The department structure and division overview.  The capital improvement fund overview and additional capital requests.  Areas of concern for 2021/22.  The bottom line, and the investments needed to maintain our parks, facilities and programs. FUNLAND AT THE ZOO PRESENTATION – D. Kirkham Director of the Funland at the Zoo Restoration Committee Dana Kirkham gave a presentation to the commission highlighting important aspects of the Funland restoration project. Highlights included:  Slides of the conceptual drawings of the projects planned to be completed in the first phase of the restoration project.   The planned location of the new and improved miniature golf course and the refurbishing of parts and paint for the existing rides.  The pavement project and the engraved bricks that are available for purchase. These bricks will be placed into a pattern which will encircle the time capsule location in the center. This will be a central area at Funland at the Zoo for future events such as school dances, fundraisers, work party gatherings, etc.  The fundraising efforts including the option for donors to purchase naming rights of benches, carousel horses, etc.  The time capsule that will be sealed and reopened in 2097.  The new entrance for Funland at the Zoo and the Zoo itself. Commissioner Reports J. Walker – County Commissioner  J. Walker discussed the current and projected water levels due to the drought. T. Hersh - Golf Advisory Board  T. Hersh reported the Pinecrest Sprinkler System Project is progressing well and they are at or a little ahead of schedule.  The revenue is up overall for all three golf courses. School Dist. 91 – Pat Lloyd (absent) School District 93 – W. Johnson (absent) Shade Tree Committee – M. Hill No report at this time. Adjournment at 12:55pm. Next meeting will be held August 2, 2021.
