IDAHO FALLS SISTER CITY MEETING MINUTES July 23, 2018 Members in Attendance: Cindy Ozaki, Cal Ozaki, Nancy Thorsen, Jim Thorsen, Carole Walters, Lynda Ulschmid, Kevin Fuhrman, Joan Fuhrman, Val Hadden, Clarke Kido, Nan Hong, Chelsea May, Kris Schneider, Ed Zaladonis, Cheryl Zaladonis Guests: Reginald and Isake Fuller Minutes: Approved Minutes from the July 2, 2018 meeting with one correction changing Heritage Center to Humanitarian Center. Treasurers Report: Balance as of 7/23/2018 is $10,762.09 which includes $4,500 from the City of Idaho Falls, $500 from Teton Toyota, and $100 from Curtis Loosli. We had expected $7,500 from the City, so we will need to do a lot of fundraising to host the delegation this October. Business: *Friendship Garden: Clarke Kido said it may be too late to plant a tree in October, but we could do a watering ceremony by the Pavilion instead. The deck needs to be stained, but it is too hot now, so maybe in September. The Master Gardeners are working with the County on weed problem solutions. *Clarke did a Minedoka pilgrimage and hung some of our Koi Flying Fish at the remembrance celebration held at the Minedoka Internment Camp. Ed has some antique photos that may be of interest. *Social Media: Chelsea said the old we site still works and is attached to the City of Idaho Falls website if-sc.org . Jeff Tomchak tweeked the web site for us. The Facebook site was set up by Russ Cawley who is no longer an active member. *Fundraising: The committee has met and decided to rely primarily on donations due to the short amount of time available. A garage sale at the Idaho Falls Chiropractic building on 17th ST in their donated unfinished basement was suggested, but not well supported as everyone is so busy. We are looking for in-kind and cash donations. Nancy provided a list of past donors to contact. 2018 Exchange *There will only be one JAEA Interpreter. Suggested checking with BYUI for possible Japanese speaking people. Bryce Shurtliff did his mission in Japan and he can help us as well. *A Home Stay list was passed around to see who can host, how many people, and length of time. We do not yet have a final list of who is coming and their home stay requirements. *We think we can get discounted tickets to the ISU football game and Chris is working on that. We will also have a tail gate party before the game. *Cindy got prices on a bus to Yellowstone. 37 passenger $1084. 55 passenger $1169 for one day and $1500 for 2 days plus hotel room and meals for driver and tip. $300 for park entry and estimated $1000 for food. Lynda will check the cost of visiting the Cody, WY museum and room rates for an overnight stay in Cody. *Cal, Cindy and Litton are working on donations from the INL companies. *Nancy and Cal are working on Golf with the City. Other Business: Carole announced that Bob Rohrdanz had passed away. Kay Rohrdanz, his wife, was a long time member of Sister Cities. She had not been active the past few years as she was caring for Bob. Kay’s home town was Tokai-mura. Kay and Bob have been strong supporters of Sister Cities for many years.
