WAR BONNET ROUND UP RODEO ADVISORY COMMITTEE Thursday, June 22nd, 2023 Sandy Downs 11:00 a.m. Members in Attendance: K. Jones, K. Staten, B. Robertson, T. Fonnesbeck, R. Campbell, E. Grossarth, S. Woolstenhulme, H. Pettingill, C. Price, C. Horsley Members not in Attendance: J. Newgard, B. Skinner, P. Holm, R. Buchan Call to Order K. Jones called the meeting to order at 11:29am. Approval of Minutes T. Fonnesbeck motioned to approve the May 25th and June 8th minutes. B. Robertson seconded. All in favor. Director Updates – P. Holm (absent) Chair Report/Production – K. Jones K. Jones reported on the following: • The Wednesday Night Kick-Off. The production has been extended to an hour and forty- five minutes. The schedule is tentatively planned as follows: Production starts at 6pm, followed by the national anthem, then the welcome message, then a possible tribal spot (depending upon if they want to participate), followed by chute dogging, then lamb scramble, then clown, then cash cow, then barrelman spotlight, then steer riding (10 total), then mutton bustin, then stick horse racing, and ending with mini bulls. • The Volunteer of the Year and Legends of the War Bonnet are still to be determined. • First Responders. Discussion on the First Responders spotlight on Thursday. She asked the board if we should make changes or keep it the same as it ended up last year. • Flag raising. After board discussion, it was decided that the flag raising ceremony should be done on Wednesday. K. Jones will discuss with B. Skinner. • Wade Thornley. K. Jones asked if we should bring back Wade Thornley this year. Last year we were unable to use him due to the rainstorm. The board agreed that they would love to have him back. K. Jones will reach out to him to confirm. • Tribal Warriors. The tribal warriors have not been confirmed, so there was board discussion on what to fill their spot with if they do not participate. Several ideas were suggested including filling the empty arena with loose horses during the tribal drum and dance spotlight, would be the best visual for that moment. Committee Reports Military Affairs/American Legion – B. Skinner (absent) Vice Chair/Hospitality/Sponsorship – K. Staten K. Staten reported on the following: • The daily schedule was distributed to board members. There are two radio remotes listed and K. Staten needs to be advised asap if any more need added. • Zion’s Bank will be doing the drone show just one night of the rodeo, on either Friday or Saturday. • Channel 8 News will be doing live remotes from the rodeo, and they would also like to do the “This is Home” segment again. • She visited the Mackay Rodeo, and they highlighted the “Man Up Crusade” which is awareness for domestic violence. She would like to incorporate this into our Thursday night show. It would be at no cost to us. • K. Staten requested that board members have their ticket requests by July 21 st. Marketing-Advertising /Tickets – R. Buchan (absent) • R. Buchan left War Bonnet posters for the board to review. There was discussion on changing the color scheme and design. Facilities & Grounds & Security – J. Stephens & R. Campbell R. Campbell reported on the following: • R. Campbell reported that they are looking to find someone to run the tractor during the rodeo as our main tractor driver is having back surgery. Communications/Public Information – E. Grossarth E. Grossarth reported on the following: • There was discussion on contestant interviews during the rodeo. E. Grossarth advised that he and B. Cranor would handle. • E. Grossarth continues working on the program layout and waiting for ads. Youth Rodeo/Family Night – C. Horsley C. Horsley reported on the following: • C. Horsley confirmed with the board on how many chute dogging and steer riders we will accept for our Family Night event. He will right up a mockup for the website and e- mail it to K. Jones and B. Robertson for approval before it is sent out. • He is getting a quote on trophies for the youth rodeo winners. Financial Report – C. Price C. Price reported on the following: • No fiscal updates. Livestock Welfare – B. Robertson B. Robertson reported on the following: • He mentioned a smaller tractor would be better. • B. Robertson will line up some of his guys to handle the timing and judging of mini bulls. • He confirmed with the board on the grain storage location. • He suggested an animal welfare rehearsal and it was agreed to do it at Tuesday’s rodeo rehearsal. • He advised he will miss the July’s second and third week’s War Bonnet meetings. Outreach – T. Fonnesbeck T. Fonnesbeck reported on the following: • Champs Heart wants to extend their youth rodeo by an hour on Wednesday, August 2nd. They will get him a slide show and a mockup of what they would like the announcers to say. • T. Fonnesbeck lined up a trailer for the Fourth of July parade. There was discussion on decorating the trailer. • He will have the coloring pages at our next meeting. Adjournment Meeting adjourned at 12:47 p.m. Next Meeting to be held July 6th, 2023.
