WAR BONNET ROUND UP RODEO ADVISORY COMMITTEE
Thursday, May 23rd, 2024

Members in Attendance: K. Jones, K. Staten, B. Robertson, B. Skinner, P. Holm, T. Fonnesbeck,
S. Woolstenhulme, J. Newgard, J. Stephens, J. Moad, E. Grossarth

Call to Order
K. Staten called the meeting to order at 11:03am.
Approval of Minutes
T. Fonnesbeck motioned to approve the April 25th minutes. K. Staten seconded. All in favor.
Director Updates – P. Holm
P. Holm reported on the following:
• He advised the committee of the drowning of bronc rider Spencer Wright’s baby and a
letter of condolence the committee members will sign that we can send Spencer and his
wife.
• He scheduled a meeting with the Cowboy Channel to finalize the livestream.
• Most of the contracts are completed and in.
• He would like to work towards keeping the War Bonnet meetings to an hour in length due
to everyone’s busy schedule.
Action Item:
• Vote on Mustang Recovery Challenge.
Following extensive discussion on this program B. Robertson motioned to let the program
participants have space for the horses in pens, and a booth for the program leaders to
give out information at the rodeo, but not let them present in the arena. B. Skinner
seconded. All in favor.

Tribal Relations – S. Woolstenhulme
No updates
Military Affairs/American Legion – B. Skinner
B. Skinner reported on the following:
• B. Skinner has been looking at several possibilities for the military segment of the rodeo.
There was discussion on having different military branch officers there in dress uniforms.
Perhaps a swearing in ceremony for marines, or other different ways to honor the military
on Saturday night. Several ideas were discussed.
• B. Skinner advised that it is becoming increasingly difficult to obtain the tickets for the
finals. He and PJ will continue to work on it.
Vice Chair/Hospitality/Sponsorship – K. Staten
K. Staten reported on the following:
• Sponsorships and hospitality are going well.
• Contestant swag has been ordered.
• The Ida Gold series kicks off on Father’s Day in Mackey.
• There is a possibility that we might get the drone show back for all three nights at this
year’s rodeo.
• All the advertising contracts are signed and done.
• The War Bonnet Association held the queen’s clinic and the social which were both very
well attended.
• The association also held a dinner and handed out five $1500.00 scholarships on
Monday, May 20th.
Marketing/Advertising/Tickets – R. Buchan (absent)
R. Buchan left a chart of the number of sold tickets with the committee.
Facilities & Grounds & Security – J. Stephens & J. Moad
J. Moad reported on the following:
• They purchased five new gates for the back pens and fifty panels will soon be delivered
to help divide the patron/contestant parking lot.
• They also ordered thirty crowd event divider panels.
• They had new arena dirt delivered that was used for the PBR.
• They are working on a hard stage structure with a metal roof and half sides. There was
further committee discussion on how to weatherproof the stage in the event of rain.
• Champ’s heart was discussed. It was decided to have them finish at 11am on
Wednesday’s event, so that Sue can be in the arena in time for the Rotary and media who
will be there at noon.
Communications/Public Information – E. Grossarth
E. Grossarth reported on the following:
• He will be working on and finalizing the War Bonnet program in June. He will meet with
K. Staten to discuss.
• He has a new colleague who will assist him with the media tent and will come to the
next meeting.
Youth Rodeo/Family Night – C. Horsley (absent)
Finance – C. Price (absent)
C. Price left the finance stats with committee members.
Livestock Welfare – B. Robertson
No updates
Outreach – T. Fonnesbeck
T. Fonnesbeck reported on the following:
• He is working on the advertising designs for the golf courses and the face cut outs.
• The coloring sheets will go out to the ARTitorium.
• He is working on ideas for the parade and whether to bother with a float. There was
some discussion on parade ideas for the truck he will be driving. P. Holm suggested a
highlight reel.
