WAR BONNET ROUND UP RODEO ADVISORY COMMITTEE Thursday, August 15th, 2024 The Good, The Bad, The Ugly Recreation Center 11:00 a.m. Members in Attendance: K. Jones, K. Staten, B. Robertson, B. Skinner, P. Holm, T. Fonnesbeck, S. Woolstenhulme, C. Horsley, E. Grossarth, H. Pettingill, R. Buchan, T. Smith, M. Wimborne Members not in Attendance: J. Newgard Call to Order K. Jones called the meeting to order at 11:12 Approval of Minutes B. Skinner motioned to approve the July 25th minutes. S. Woolstenhulme seconded. All in favor. Director Updates – P. Holm P. Holm reported on the following: The Good • Wednesday was amazingly successful. An estimated 2500 people attended. • The Shoshone Bannock tribe dancers were great. • The National Anthem singers were fantastic. • Bull riders showed up. • The stock. • The new stage. • The grandstands and flowers looked great. • The new rodeo office for Debbie. The Bad • Alive After 5’s location on Wednesday.  • The concert at Mountain America on Thursday competing with our rodeo. • Duck Race and stock being late on Thursday. • Vinyl banners. • Audio from Volstar. • The platforms behind the chutes need improved. • Clogged toilets. • The heat. • Accessibility to the east side of the arena seems confusing. • The tribal video. The Ugly • Bison Bucks. • Thursday’s pre-show. • Late performers. • The golf cart issue. • Only having one bareback rider on Thursday. Chair Report/Production – K. Jones K. Jones reported on the following: The Good • From a production standpoint, we put on a great show. • Everyone seems on-board to move women’s slack to Wednesday night next year. • The flow of the rodeo. • Kelsie the new flag girl coordinator. • The new announcer stage and swamp cooler. • Seating capacity. • Zac doing the interviews. • The break-a-way jackpot was a success. • Jeff and his team. • Contestant entries. • Security was fantastic. • Frostview was fantastic. • The rodeo secretary’s new hut. • The bull rides. • The arena and grounds were amazing. • Contestant hospitality. • Social media during the rodeo. • The sound was better this year and no complaints that it was too loud. • The drone show. • The 1000 cup special. • The fireworks were awesome. • The chiropractor. The Bad  • The timing chute needs replaced and we need two lead ups into the chutes. • Need a toolbox in the announcer stand to fix issues like the timing chutes. • Thursday’s show and all the problems. • We need a smaller bison if we have that event last year. • Missing our calf on Thursday. • Sound missing in a location on Saturday. • The Pee Wee contest confusion. • Some of the cowboy interviews were cut short. Need better fiber behind the chutes. Committee Reports Tribal Relations – S. Woolstenhulme S. Woolstenhulme reported on the following: The Good • People liked our ticket prices. The Bad • The Alive after 5 band was too loud and they played during the national anthem. • There were contestants trying to pay fees to Debbie when the shack was locked up. We need signs or something. • Security mentioned to her that we should put up some green mesh near the entrance for shade. • The dancer platforms bowed, and a dancer twisted her ankle. Military Affairs/American Legion – B. Skinner B. Skinner reported on the following: The Good • The military segment went well. • The new military vehicle was a hit. • People liked the military flags. • Rod Remsburg was thrilled to be honored. • The vendor set up was fantastic and the vendors were happy. • We had a three-way tie in break-a-way. B. Skinner tossed a dice to decide which rider will win the gun. The dice landed for Addie Hill who will receive the rifle. The Bad • Alive after 5 on Wednesday. • Empty seats. • There were not people utilizing the Coors tent. • Power issues tripping the breakers in the kitchen area. • A vendor was selling water. • The Chaplains collecting money for the boot were a little push. Maybe only have them one night. Vice Chair/Hospitality/Sponsorship – K. Staten K. Staten reported on the following: The Good • There was great feedback for media day. • Friday’s after party was a hit and the bank was pleased. • The chiropractor was great. • Imperial Cleaners rescued us getting the new shirts pressed after the shirt company got them out late. • The cooling towels in VIP were a huge hit. • Not having Saturday being over sold. • The break-a-way jackpot was great. • H. Pettingill and her handling of vendor placement was great. • Jon Clark did an amazing job with the banners. • R. Buchan for the banners and will call and reserved seating. • The Wednesday night event was good. • No complaints on ticket prices. • The Bad • We need more banners back by the rough stock where the cowboys are changing their clothes. • We need trash cans behind both chutes and the trash needs collected daily. • Champs Heart needs to bring a flag for their National Anthem. • The tee pee placement caused problems. • We need more signs about cameras and photography. • Volunteers parking behind the chutes. • We should bring back the Monday night meeting. Marketing/Advertising/Tickets – R. Buchan R. Buchan reported on the following: The Good • We made approximately $19,000 more in ticket sales this year. • We had a lot of attendees from the Salt Lake area, so we should increase our marketing in that area. The Bad • Problem with ticket scalpers. She has some ideas on how to deal with them. Facilities & Grounds & Security – T. Smith T. Smith reported on the following: The Good • Security was very responsive. • He suggested that we move the flag lowering to outside of the event. • Everything went smooth. The Bad • There were some wiring issues at the exit gate. Communications/Public Information – E. Grossarth E. Grossarth reported on the following: The Good • Staff and volunteers were very helpful. • Security was great. • Media Day went well. The Bad • He needs to be informed of issues in real time. Youth Rodeo/Family Night – C. Horsley C. Horsley reported on the following: The Good • We know which activities, rented from BYU, were a hit and which one’s weren’t. • He suggested that we time the steer riding event next year so there is a winner. Finance – C. Price The Good • There were no issues in finance, and everything went well. Livestock Welfare – B. Robertson B. Robertson reported on the following: The Good • He had an awesome crew with no hiccups. • The local riders. • The rodeo is great entertainment not just for cowboys, but for everyone. • The break-a-way jackpot was a success with 53 entries. He received a lot of good feedback. • He has talked with Jeff about doing a barrel race jackpot next year. Outreach – T. Fonnesbeck T. Fonnesbeck reported on the following: The Good • Kade and Marty are outstanding, and Kade is recognized now by rodeo patrons. • People loved the free cups. The Bad • The clown/barrel man’s act on Thursday. There was further discussion on this issue. Adjournment Meeting adjourned at 1:30 p.m. Next Meeting to be held Thursday, October 24th.
