Minutes Forestry Committee 6-8-23 The meeting was called to order at 3:36 p.m. Roll was called. Dan, Laurie, John, Dennis, Olivia, and Erik were present. There was no address from the public. Laurie moved to approve the minutes of the 5-11-23 meeting as amended, John seconded, passed. New business discussed included: - Introduction of new committee person Olivia Johnson - A general update included information on the Urban Forest Master Plan Subcommittee meetings which are being held from 5-7 p.m. on the first Thursday and fourth Tuesday of every month at the TRAC until completed. Anew planting going in at the frontier village on the path to the monument. A mention on the plans for most new trees this year being replacements and not much for new plantings. The likelihood of a large number of letters needing to be sent regarding dead, diseased, dying, or dangerous trees this year. With how busy the forester has been there has been no time for any sort of tree surveys. - The need for help. This is a major concern of the forester and needs to be addressed. It was recommended that the forester contact the Vocational Rehabilitation program, Brenda Jarski- Weber with 4-H, and posting flyers on corkboards around town at businesses. - It was discussed that we come up with some sort of thank you for Tex Weatherly who was a member of the forestry committee for many years, and was instrumental in planting over a million trees in Jamestown and Stutsman county, who has recently stepped down from the committee. Old business included: - No old business was discussed. Motion to adjourn was made by Dan, was seconded by Laurie, and passed. The meeting was adjourned at 4:40 p.m.
