JOHNSON CONSERVATION COMMISSION MEETING MINUTES JUNE 19, 2025 Present: Lois Frey, Sue Lovering, Adrian Schmidt Absent: Noel Dodge, Deane Locke, Peter Hammond, Jared Jasinski Stepped down from CC: Jackie Stanton, Johna Keefe Due to the lack of a quorum, we were not able to move on any issues or approve the May minutes. Jackie and Johna have left the CC, which gives us an opportunity to fill those seats with active members, committed to working toward our goals and willing to take on and fulfill projects. If anyone comes to mind, invite them to a meeting so they can learn about us. It would be useful to remember that if you can’t make a meeting, you must call Lois. She needs to know whether there will be a quorum; this is why she makes the request with every agenda she sends. COMMITTEE RESTRUCTURING Lois, Sue, and Adrian agreed that the recent meeting and tentative result about streamlining the community groups was neither useful or applicable to Conservation. The suggested method of streamlining the CC was to make the Tree Board and the Arboretum subservient to the CC. ‘Not in this century’ summed up the reaction. POLLINATOR GARDENS The new signs have been installed at the Skatepark. The CC’s cost was $80, leaving a balance in the grant of $420 for other educational signage at the garden. The grant is to be finished in June, 2026. New annuals have come up and bloomed, so we’ve decided to forget rototilling again, but to hold a planting day when the weather cools. Adrian had some swell pictures. We’ll mow around the edges as formerly planned. As for the visionary plan for removal of soil for flood mitigation at Wescom, there will be an informational meeting on July 7 at NVU, with LCPC members. GOMO TOWN FOREST Adrian hasn’t heard from Mike about the forestry management plan; presumably it’s still planned for fall. Adjourned at 8:20 The next meeting will be on July 10, at 6:30 at the library. Submitted by Sue Lovering, Secretary.
