Johnson Public Library Board of Trustees Meeting Minutes, September 10, 2025 Temporary Library Space in the Masonic Temple Present: Kelly Vandorn, Suzanne Dodge, Jasmine Yuris, Eric Schulz, Jeanne Engel, Noel Dodge, Sue Lovering, Trista Tallman Absent: Sabrina Rossi 1. Call to Order: Kelly called the meeting to order at 6:05 pm 2. Adjustments or Additions to the Agenda: None 3. Review and Approve the Minutes for the August 20th meeting: Kelly moved that we accept the meeting minutes from August 20th with no changes. Suzanne seconded, and the motion passed. 4. Trees Update: (*shifted agenda items for Noel and Sue) Sue visited Horsford Nursery on Monday and chose two maple trees to replace the tree on Main Street and Etta Parker’s lawn that both had to be removed during the Library relocation. Jeanne purchased the trees over the phone, and Jasmine will pick them up on Friday. It was decided that we would plant Friday upon the trees’ delivery, so Noel and Eric will dig the holes Friday afternoon. Eric will get compost from Lamoille Soil. Noel will get water and necessary tools collected. It was agreed that both trees will need mulching, but we can do that after planting. All will meet at Etta’s at 4:30 on Friday, September 12th to plant the trees! 5. Treasurers Report: This past month, $270 was collected for t-shirt sales, and we received a $50 donation 6. Librarian’s Report: On Thursday, September 11, Jeanne, Kelly and Eric will join Tom Galinat on a zoom call with Efficiency Vermont in regards to energy use in the new building. Fall programming is underway, and we are continually grateful for the United Church of Johnson for letting us use their space for certain programs. Jeanne  has been going through paperwork and emails from the past 25 years, thinking about the transition that will be happening in the next two months. 7. Update on New Library Progress: There have been some disagreements and mistakes made in regards to the structural engineers that the town hired. As of September 9th, Northeast Engineering Services have decided to cease working with the town on this project. Tom Galinat and Paul, the architect, are determined to continue moving ahead with getting the RFP out for the concrete in the least, considering the cold months that are quickly approaching. 8. Library Director Position Update: Kelly, Sabrina, Jessica Bickford (former Library Trustee) and Peter Hammond selectboard member) make up the initial hiring committee for the Library Director. The updated and revised job description and opening has been posted on the Vermont Library Association site, the Trustee and staff listserve, Leagues of Cities and Towns, Local Newspaper, etc. A new gmail account has been set up for interested candidates to send resumes and inquiries to. It has been decided that September 30th will begin the interview process. 9. Unfinished Business: a. Adrienne Parker has sent the trustees a sampling of potential merchandise with our new logo and images. The board decided we will sell merchandise closer to our moving date to raise both funds and spirits as excitement builds. The board continues to be grateful for all the time and expertise Adrienne has shared with us. b. There will be a celebration of Jeanne’s Library Legacy on Saturday, October 4th from 2-4pm at the Arboretum. All will be invited! We will have lite fare, we will shower Jeanne with thanks and praise, and the weather will be perfect. 10. Adjourn: Jasmine moved to adjourn, Eric seconded, and the motion passed at 6:42 pm.
