TNL Committee April Meeting

JOHNSON TUESDAY NIGHT LIVE COMMITTEE MEETING MINUTES JOHNSON MUNICIPAL BUILDING TUESDAY, APRIL 22, 2025 Present: Howard Romero, Tim Mikovitz, Charles Flaum, Tom Moog Absent: Sophia Berard, Geoff Hollis Note: All votes taken are unanimous unless otherwise noted. Howard called the meeting to order at 7:00. Charles moved to approve the minutes of March 26, 2025, Tom seconded and the motion was passed. Howard said he and Tom walked Old Mill Park today and looked at parking, etc. Tom suggested moving the stage more to the middle of the field and defining the back of the TNL area with vendor trucks. They counted 60+ parking spots in the park. Howard would like to get custom signs made pointing people to Old Mill Park for TNL. They are $8-9 each or cheaper if we get at least 10. Tom said they think they found a good place to put sponsor signs. Howard said they toured the other possible parking areas. There is plenty of space. We need to get 2 more portalets. Charles read from an email Joie Lehouillier sent. She said she has been involved in many events at Old Mill Park such as soccer tournaments and egg hunts, and parking is an issue. People will try to park anywhere and everywhere. She would be happy to share helpful hints. She has found that the police are almost always called for one reason or another. Tom said he can provide radios for committee members to use at the event. Tim moved to approve expenditure of up to $200 for signs, Tom seconded and the motion was passed. Howard said he will buy some “Parking” signs to show where people are allowed to park. We could also put up one or two that say “No parking this side of the road.” We want people to park on only one side of Lendway Lane. Tom said he can check in with Sophia tomorrow about vendors. She is planning on getting a couple of world music bands for the second night. Howard showed a proposed Legion Field site plan. He got a recommendation of someone in Waterville who could move the bandstand. Howard met with him. When Legion Field is leveled it will be done by adding soil. He wants the bandstand floor to be at least 2 feet above the field, which is more or less what it is now, but the problem is that we don’t know yet how high that will be. But there is no rush on moving the bandstand. We can do it any time before next July. He doesn’t know when the field will be leveled. He would ideally like to move the bandstand now because moving it will chew up the field. Tom asked if we can move it at the same time the field is being leveled. Howard said possibly. Howard said he thinks we will put the bandstand on a concrete slab. There was discussion about the proposed new location for the bandstand. It was pointed out that in that location people will be looking into the sun as they look at the stage. Tim suggested putting it next to the driveway, where the Historical TNL Committee Meeting Minutes p. 2 April 22, 2025 Society usually sets up. Then it would be next to power and water. Howard noted that the curb cut location will be changing. The Studio Center has verbally told us we can go through their property for a second exit. Howard said on Thursday he has a meeting with Legion Field stakeholders. There is a group that is not an official town committee – people involved with the oven, recreation, the ice rink and TNL. Howard said we have talked about getting a shipping container for storage. He wants to put it behind the bandstand. Another possibility is putting it in the middle of the back of the field, with a mural on it and a sign across the top saying “Legion Field.” A 20 ft. container that has been on only one trip costs about $5K delivered. Tim said we can get one cheaper than that. Howard said if we want to add another end door that adds another $1000 to the cost. A 3 ft. human door also costs $1000. A gravel base to set it on would probably cost about $500. Bringing electricity to it from the bandstand panel would cost another couple hundred dollars. Tim said he thinks that cost would be more like $500. Howard said he doesn’t know the cost of moving the bandstand yet. Howard said the library move will be Friday night/Saturday morning. The band is supposed to start playing midday. Equipment needs to get set up on the stage before that. Charles said he intends to start the sponsor campaign tonight with an email alert that the sponsor email will be coming. Tomorrow he wants to send a snail mail letter and at the same time an email sponsorship letter. An email will be sent to prospective sponsors next Monday. There was discussion about the deadline for sponsorships. It was agreed to make it the first week in June. Charles said Joie Lehouiller wants to get rid of responsibility for the Facebook page. He can take it over. The committee agreed to that. Charles said he talked to someone at WLVB who recommended a $400 ad campaign that would start 2 weeks before the event. Their company runs two different stations – WLVB and WCVT. WLVB is country music and WCVT is classic hits. WCVT covers a larger area. WLVB is more localized. Tom said whenever he is on WLVB everywhere he goes after that people tell him they heard him. He thinks a huge majority of people around here listen to WLVB. It was agreed to use WLVB for the ads. Howard said Alan Lehouillier is donating light towers. We only need them for the August show. Tim said he thinks it would be great to have them for both shows. Charles suggested that he and Howard start visiting sponsors the week of May 12. Tim moved to adjourn and the motion was seconded and passed at 7:56. Minutes submitted by Donna Griffiths
