Kendallville Park and Recreation Department 211 Iddings StreetKendallville, Indiana 46755 Phone (260)347-1064 BOARD MEETING MINUTES July 11, 2022 6:30PM Present: Jen Blackman, Dave Button, Dennis Nartker, Tracy Tipton, Dawn McGahen-Park Director, Diane Peachy-Skatepark Enthusiast Public Comments: None were given. Minutes of the June 13, 2022 meeting were approved as presented. (Blackman, Tipton) Claims were reviewed and approved as presented. (Blackman, Button) Skatepark Discussion: Diane reported that Hunger Skate Park sent back the contract for approval and signatures. They will then work on designing the local park and after approval of the design, fundraising will begin. Dawn signed the contract and will send it back to Hunger Skate Park. Vacation Extension: The board agreed to extend Susan Crosby’s 76.5 vacation hours. (Blackman, Tipton) Directors Report: Highlights 1. We discussed the possibility of adding a cabin rental deposit to the contract after there were issues with a renter smoking and having dogs inside the cabin. 2. The Patriotic Pops Event went very well and had a large group of attendees for both the concert and the fireworks. 3. Dawn will be attending the Global Leadership Summit held at the CLC in August. 4. Meetings with the finance committee have been scheduled and Dawn will start working on next year’s budget. 5. Weekly water tests are being completed and so far, the results have been good. 6. A family has contacted the park about installing a memorial fountain on park grounds. Discussion about this will continue. Maintenance Report: Highlights 1. Fixed the bridge over the Sherman Street ditch. 2. Helped setup and clean up for the Patriotic Pops Event. 3. Tore out broken sidewalk and handrails at the East Beach guard shack. 4. Put out the posts and ropes in the swimming area of the East Beach. 5. Moved an abandoned camper in the campgrounds to the parking lot. 6. Cut down and removed the pine tree stumps at Cole Gardens and also a dead maple tree in the west terraces. 7. Planted a memorial tree on Sherman Street and planted a tree at the Cole Gardens that was lost during a wind storm. Recreation Update: 1. The Your Party Princess Concert will be held July 20 th on the West Beach Terraces. 2. Camp Wethonkitha is going well, and we are halfway through the camp season. 3. We are collaborating with the YMCA on the Family Challenge and will also be adding a family kickball event this fall. KGSL is having their end of the season tournament this week and next at the KORC. 2. FC Revolution would like to host a summer soccer camp. 3. The YMCA Flag Football season has started. We plan on opening concessions during their games. 4. We have had several traveling ball teams inquire about using the fields and complex for practice and events. Ryan and Dawn will meet with them to see how we can accommodate them.
