Village of Kohler Zoning Board of Appeals Meeting September 10, 2025 Chairperson Lee Gumm called the meeting to order at 3:00 p.m. Roll call was taken: Lee Gumm, John Winter, Tom Hilke and Randy Kraemer were present. Dan Kolb was absent. Attorney Mike Bauer was present. Staff members present: Mike Kitzerow, Shawn Splivalo and Cindi Gamb. Business 1. Request for a Variance from David and Nina Kohler, 1112 West Riverside Drive, Kohler for a Fence – requested variances are for a fence and electric gate that exceeds the allowed height and placement, Kohler Ordinances 20.12.032(J)(1) and 20.12.032(J)(2). Mike Kitzerow provided the details for the request. On July 7, 2025, he was notified of installation of a fence that was not in compliance with Village Ordinances. Kohler Co. Attorney Nikki Patterson apologized for the oversight and a request for variance was sent in as soon as they were made aware of the situation. Kohler Co. Director of Security presented some of the issues with the property and the safety of the residents. Christopher Zugel from Kohler Co. Landscape spoke regarding landscaping on both sides of the fence. Eight-foot shrubs will be planted to conceal the fence. Nina and David Kohler spoke about the reasons for their request for the variance including recent issues on their property involving security. Motion by Randy Kraemer, second by John Winter to grant the variance as requested for David and Nina Kohler and Kohler Co. for a fence and electric gate. Motion carried. (Addendum A is attached, which explains the special circumstances and justification for approval of the variance.)
