OLD TOWN LA VERNE BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT DISTIRICT
MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING
Monday, June l,2020
I The teleconference meeting was called to order by Chairperson Craig Walters at 8:32
a.m. Mr. Walters stated that questions can be emailed to olanning@cityoflaverne.ore.
Advisory Board Members present: Craig Walters, Chris Gendreau, Micky Rehm, Jason
Miller, Marianne Stark and Matt Forgey. City Representatives present: Mayor Tim
Hepburn, Community Development Director Eric Scherer and Administrative Clerk
Natalie Hiatt. Others present: Craig Hoelzelof Flying Deuces, Cindy Vallejo of
University of La Verne and Leah Skinner of the Chamber of Commerce.
2. CALENDAR
Cool Cruise - Mr. Hoelzel stated that he is hopeful to hold the event on August 22,2020
If the event has to be cancelled he witl need a minimum three week notice.
Mr. Scherer stated the event would be dependent upon the county restrictions.
Mr. Walters asked how the show can be limited if a larger number of people attend.
Ms. Stark suggested extending the event further to spread out the participants.
Mayor Hepburn stated his support for the show but it would ultimately be up to Los
Angeles County health orders.
It was moved by Mr. Gendreau and seconded by Ms. Rehm to table the decision until the
next meeting and keep the event date of August 22no.
Motion carried by a 5-0 vote.
Beer/Wine Walk - Tentative date Saturday, September 26ft
3. NEW BUSINESS
A. Discussion on Upcoming Events (Cool Cruise, BeerAVine Walk, etc.) -
Discussion will continue in the Association meeting.
B. University of La Verne Dinner Crawl Discussion - Ms. Cindy Vallejo of
Universiry of La Verne announced the Dinner Crawl date of August 27th. Due to
COVID-19 a takeout option will be organized in addition to the dine-in option.
Ms. Vallejo expects attendance to be between 100-150 students.
Mr. Walters asked if the event can include the retail businesses
Ms. Vallejo stated that retailers like Duds and Doodads participated in past events
and others are welcome to join. The menu willbe organized in June and meals
will be capped at 50 for each participating restaurant.
It was moved by Ms. Stark and seconded by Mr. Gendreau to allocate $500.00 for
the band.
Motion carried by a 5-0 vote.
C Discussion on amount to transfer to Association from proceeds of Beer Walk
2Ol9 - Mr. Scherer stated that the net revenue was $12,000.00. There is currently
$ I 15,000.00 in reserves.
It was moved by Mr. Gendreau and seconded by Ms. Rehm to move the entire
$12,000.00 to the Association.
D. Business Assistance Programs (OTLVBIA, CDBG, etc.)
OLTVBIA - Mr. Walters stated that l6 businesses received S1,000.00 grants
from the Association.
CDBG - Mr. Scherer stated $2,500.00 Business Grants will be provided to
approximately 100 businesses. Application deadline was extended to June 5'n.
Mr. Scherer stated with the relaxation of ABC rules outdoor dining and a block
party would be possible if the restaurants are interested.
It was moved by Mr. Miller and seconded by Ms. Rehm to present to City
Council for pre-approval.
Motion carried by a 5-0 vote.
4. COMMITTEE REPORTS/ UPDATES
A. City Report (Eric Scherer): Mr. Scherer stated that the annual report will be
presented to City Council at tonight's meeting.
B. University Report (Jason Miller): Mr. Miller stated that the University is
preparing for face-to-face instruction for the fall.
C Marketing (Micky Rehm): Ms. Rehm had no marketing updates but asked if there
was more information regarding the scheduled protest at City Hall.
Mayor Hepburn stated that the police department will be fully staffed and there
will be more announcements to come.
Mr. Scherer stated that the protest is scheduled to start at l2:00 p.m'
D. Chamber Report (Leah Skinner): Ms. Skinner announced the Community Yard
Sale is scheduled for Saturday, June 27'h,The event was moved from Bonita High
School to Brackett Airport.
E. Social Media Update (Micky Rehm): None.
F. Financial Report: None.

Meeting was adjourned at9:52 a.m., the next regular meeting to be held on Monday, July

OLD TOWN LA VERNE BUISNESS IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT MEETING
The Old Town La Verne Business Improvement District meeting will be closed to the public in
compliance with Governor Newsom’s Executive Order to minimize the spread of the COVID-
19 Virus. Additionally, the meeting will be conducted via teleconference with members
participating remotely. Considering this, the customary meeting format has been modified.
Even with this change in format, the City is still encouraging public participation and wishes to
make residents aware of the following opportunities for participation:
1) View the meeting through the City’s website at www.cityoflaverne.org/stream
2) Send an email in advance if you wish to make a comment on a specific agenda item.
Please submit your comments via email at planning@cityoflaverne.org. We ask that
you provide those emails before 7:00 a.m. on June 1st so that staff will be prepared to
read them aloud at the appropriate time during the meeting.
3) If you wish to make a comment during the meeting, we will be monitoring the above
email address and will make every effort to include your comment into the records.
Please be aware there is a delay in the live stream service and any comments should
be submitted as soon as possible.
4) For individuals that wish to share their comments directly during the live stream, you
may email the planning@cityoflaverne.org by 7:00 a.m. on June 1st with a phone
number and the item(s) you wish to speak on. We will call you back at the appropriate
time during the meeting for your comment.
