OLD TOWN LA VERNE BUSINESS IMPROVEMENT DISTRICT
MINUTES OF THE REGULAR MEETING
Monday, November 7, 2022
1. The meeting was called to order by Chairperson Craig Walters at 8:36 a.m.
Advisory Board Members present: Micky Rehm, George Henderson, and Marianne
Stark. City Representative present: Community Development Director Eric Scherer and
Secretary Natalie Hiatt. Others present: Fang Wang and Ken Valmonte.
2. CALENDAR
Cruisin La Verne – Saturday, November 19, 2022 – Mr. Scherer stated that the $2,000
payment was paid to the promoter and Mainiero Square will not be fully complete but
will be open to the D.J. and promoter for the event.
Holiday Stroll – Saturday, December 3, 2022- Ms. Rehm stated that the decorator prefers
one large tree over three small trees. Ms. Rehm will make the necessary arrangements.
Mr. Scherer stated that Santa Clause will be coordinated by Yvonne Duran of
Community Services. Mr. Henderson volunteered for the reading of ‘Twas the Night
Before Christmas.
Heart of the Foothills Open Streets – Sunday, April 23, 2023 – Mr. Scherer stated that the
one-day street closure will allow for pedestrian traffic only.
Wine Walk – TBD
3. APPROVAL OF THE MINUTES
None
4. NEW BUSINESS
A. Beer Walk Recap – Mr. Scherer stated that the turnout was lower than expected
due to the weather but overall, a good event.
The Board discussed potentially closing the streets for the event, but it was
decided that too many of the participating businesses would be left out.
Mr. Scherer stated that a total of 450 tickets were sold and an estimated net profit
of $10,000. Ms. Rehm suggested using Stripe or Venmo to sell tickets during the
event. Ms. Stark will contact Onewest Bank for further information.
Ms. Stark discussed the transfer of Association funds. She will research past
transfers and continue discussions later.

It was moved by Ms. Stark and seconded by Mr. Henderson to Transfer $6,000 to
the Association and present CERT with a $1,000 check. The motion carried by a
3-0 vote.
B. Wine Walk Date – The Board selected Saturday, April 29, 2023 for the next Wine
Walk.
C. Mainiero Square Dedication – The Mainiero Square re-dedication will be held
during the Holiday Stroll on Saturday, December 3rd at 4:00pm. Pictures with
Santa Claus, tree lighting, and the reading of ‘Twas the Night Before Christmas
will follow.

A. City Report (Eric Scherer): Mr. Scherer stated that the upholstery building on 2nd
Street will be demolished. The building is owned by the University of La Verne.
B. University Report (Zuhey Espinoza): None
C. Marketing (Micky Rehm): Ms. Rehm is currently working on the holiday post
card.
D. Chamber Report (Leah Skinner): None
E. Social Media Update (Micky Rehm):
F. Financial Report: Mr. Scherer stated $120,000 is in reserves.

Meeting was adjourned at 9:21 a.m., to the next meeting to be held on Monday,
