Minutes of the Regular Meeting
August 23, 2022
1. A meeting of the Youth & Family Action Committee was called to order by Chair
Crosby at 6:30 p.m.
2. Executive Board Members present:

3. Review of Minutes Minutes for the June 28th meeting were not approved
due to lack of present Executive Board members and
will be considered at the next meeting.
4. Introduction The group was formally introduced to newly
appointed Executive Board Member Wendy Lau who
is serving as a City Council representative.
5. Executive Board Vacancy JR Ranells with the City shared that only one
application for the remaining vacant Executive Board
position had been received and it was from long time
YFAC participant Don Kendrick. The group
unanimously voted to recommend Don for formal
approval by the City Council at their next meeting.
6. SRO Report School Resource Officer Janessa Gonzalez reported
that the first couple of days of school went smoothly.
Janessa also shared that her and the high school
staff have a positive professional relationship. The
group discussed the increase in traffic safety
measures in place for the next couple of weeks.

Tobacco Education Compliance Officer Ryan
Lehotsky provided an update on flavored tobacco
enforcement efforts and noted their positive impacts
in the community.
7. BUSD Report Mark Rodgers with the BUSD shared information
about the universal transitional kindergarten program.
Mark also noted information about the enhanced
mental health services provided by the district.
Lastly, Mark shared that Superintendent Coles had
resigned but the district was in good shape and good
hands.
8. Suicide Prevention Isela Moreno and Paula Ale with Tri-City Mental Health
Services shared information about the Community
Navigator Program. They also noted that September
was Suicide Prevention Awareness Month and shared
information and resources for the group and
community.
9. Public Comment Chair Crosby shared information about the Christmas
Morning Program and possible ideas for volunteers.
Alfie Sanchez shared information about the Bike
Program and beginning to plan for this year’s program.
Ron Serven shared information regarding the La
Verne/San Dimas Education Foundation and available
resources as well as information on the Ramona
Middle School Wellness Garden.
Mark shared information regarding the Smudge Pot
game taking place on September 10th.
10. Next Meeting The next YFAC meeting was scheduled for
September 27, 2022.
11. Adjournment The meeting was adjourned at 7:24 p.m.
