September 26, 2023
1. A meeting of the Youth & Family Action Committee was called to order by Chair
Crosby at 6:30 p.m.
Executive Board Members present:
Executive Board
Rick Crosby, YFAC Chair, Council Member
Greg Palatto, BUSD Board Member
Don Kendrick, Resident
Denise Fisher, Resident
2. Review of Minutes Minutes for the August 22, 2023, meeting were
reviewed and approved.
3. SRO Report School Resource Officer (SRO) Eddie Burgos
reported that the school year is going well so far. He
has been visiting La Verne schools and noted that he
is beginning to get familiar with his role as the SRO.
4. BUSD Report Mark Rodgers shared the school year was off to a
smooth start and that there has been an added focus
on student attendance, academic performance, and
social/emotional wellness. The group celebrated the
announcement of Grace Miller Elementary being
named a Blue Ribbon School, the upcoming Bonita
High School Trade Fair, and the recent spotlight of
Bonita High School on local television news.
5. Program Review Assistant City Manager JR Ranells shared that YFAC
is funded completely through donations. The last
fundraiser was approximately 5 years ago and the
committee has continued to do programs, but has not
increased funds or donations. JR reported that as a
result of the opportunity presented through the Ruth &
Joseph Reed foundation, staff had submitted
information to the IRS in hopes of being able to accept
funds. Executive Board Member Don Kendrick shared
information about the foundation and how YFAC’s
programs were in line with their goals. The group
discussed several different program ideas that might
benefit today’s youth. Direction was given for staff to
work with BUSD and Chair Crosby to develop a
program that reaches out directly to BUSD teachers

community youth.
6. Public Comment Executive Board Member Denise Fisher shared
information regarding an upcoming K-9 Foundation
Fundraiser on December 2nd. Carolyn (didn’t record
last name) suggested resources for parents such as
workshops and information that would be helpful in
protecting kids.

24, 2023.

Respectfully submitted,
