LA VERNE YOUTH & FAMILY ACTION COMMITTEE Minutes of the Regular Meeting March 26, 2024 1. A meeting of the Youth & Family Action Committee was called to order by Chair Rick Crosby at 5:03 p.m. Executive Board Members present: Executive Board Rick Crosby, YFAC Chair, Council Member Wendy Lau, Mayor Pro Tem Greg Palatto, BUSD Denise Fisher, Resident Don Kendrick, Resident 2. Review of Minutes Minutes for the February 27, 2024, meeting were approved. 3. SRO Report Student Resource Officer (SRO) Eduardo Burgos shared that he and Motor Officer Salas are doing presentations at Saturday school that are particularly DUI focused to raise awareness about the dangers of driving while intoxicated. They have found a variety of resources that they are able to utilize while initiating this conversation with the students. 4. BUSD Report The BUSD student liaisons shared recent student accomplishments and updates with the group including a Washington DC trip for the seniors who were unable to attend the 8th grade trip due to the COVID-19 Pandemic. The Bonita High School choirs brought home nine awards across the different groups at a competition in San Diego in March. 5. Teach & Transform Grant YFAC Chair Crosby and Mark Rodgers from BUSD reviewed the applications for the grant and provided the larger group an overview. The Executive Board voted to approve all six grant submissions for a total of approximately $7,000 of the allocated $10,000 for this year’s grant. The Board directed staff to move forward with awarding the grantees their funds. 6. Public Comment Robin Carder discussed options for fundraising for the Summer Lunch Program. The group also discussed honoring the YFAC Student Liaisons at the May 6 City Council Meeting. Youth & Family Action Committee Minutes February 27, 2024, page 2 7.
