Laconia Public Library Board of Trustees Minutes of Meeting May 22, 2014 Volpe Room VOTED: Minutes of regular meeting March 27, 2014 approved. Motion: Perley; Second: Strauss. Unanimous VOTED: March, April 2014 expenditures approved. Motion: Perley; Second: Smith. Unanimous [Finance] VOTED: To encumber $6000.00 from current fiscal year budget to pay for Hoopla startup costs. Motion: Moriarty; Second: Smith. Unanimous VOTED: To approve replacement of up to four soft fabric chairs throughout the library. Motion: Smith; Second: Perley. Unanimous Laconia Public Library Board of Trustees held their regular monthly meeting in Volpe Room. Chairman Bob Selig called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. Present: Craig McKeon; John Moriarty; John Perley; Glenn Smith; Beth Strauss; Director Randy Brough Not Present: James Anderson; Kimberly Danosi; City Council Liaison Brenda Baer Finance Committee: March, April 2014 expenditures approved. Motion: Perley; Second: Smith. Unanimous Director reviewed FY 2014 spending to date. Hoopla digital service was discussed. The service looks promising, but questions arose about budget and usage. Director will research further (Boston Public Library; Wiggin Memorial Library, Stratham NH). Laconia is currently in a queue to launch Hoopla in mid-July. Pending satisfactory answers to questions raised, the Board voted unanimously (Motion: Moriarty; Second: Smith) to encumber $6000.00 from FY 2014 budget to pay for Hoopla startup costs. Goss Reading Room activity was discussed. A new releases book display will be added and advertised. Second Gale to Goss Walk held on May 17 was successful, though the threat of rain probably kept the number of participants down. Last year @ 130 people participated in the Walk. This year there were@ 80 participants. A fall event is a good idea, perhaps something along the lines of the Author Tea event held at the Belknap Mill. Lighting upgrades for Periodical, Mowbray/Brindis Rooms are tentatively scheduled for the first week of June. Tradesman Builders Corp. (Durkee Street, Laconia) are willing and able to add doors to the upper level meeting room. Adding doors will make the room suitable for small meetings, tutoring sessions, etc. Ballpark cost of project is $8000.00. Fire Dept. will be consulted to insure that the proposed plan meets Code requirements. Many of the soft chairs in the library are in poor condition. Board voted unanimously (Motion: Smith; Second: Perley) to replace up to four of them. Cost to replace four chairs is @ $5000.00. Next meeting June 19 @ 5:00pm. Respectfully submitted,
