Laconia Public Library Board of Trustees Minutes of Meeting July 30, 2015 Volpe Room VOTED: Minutes of regular meeting May 28, 2015 approved. Motion: Anderson; Second: Smith. Unanimous VOTED: May expenditures approved. Motion: Anderson; Second: Smith. Unanimous [Finance] VOTED: June expenditures approved. Motion: Anderson; Second: Smith. Unanimous [Finance] Laconia Public Library Board of Trustees held their regular monthly meeting in Volpe Room. Chairman Bob Selig called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. Present: James Anderson; John Perley; Glenn Smith; Director Randy Brough Not Present: Craig Clark; Kimberly Danosi; John Moriarty; Liz Rosenfeld; City Council Liaison Brenda Baer Finance Committee: May expenditures approved. Motion: Anderson; Second: Smith. Unanimous June expenditures approved. Motion: Anderson; Second: Smith. Unanimous Final accounting of FY 2014-2015 is not yet complete, but library will underspend budget, mostly due to personnel costs. American Library Association Annual Conference Report: Programs attended by the director include:  Building the New Nostalgia: Why Libraries Matter  Connecting with STEM ( Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) Professionals for Powerful Public Programs  Rip Us Off: Six Marketing ideas you can steal and use at your library  Advocating for a Library Future  Robot Invasion: How Libraries in School, Public and Academic Libraries are Educating with Robots In relation to the Connecting with STEM Professionals program the director and two staff met yesterday with Sann Lavallee, Chair of the Computer Department at Lakes Region Community College. Sann and the College hosted “Little Miss Geek, a Tech Camp for Girls”, a couple of weeks ago, and in the fall are holding a robotics workshop. Sann appears eager to work with LPL to create powerful STEM programs. Operations Update: Trees: The split cherry has been removed, and dead branches have been culled from several other trees. Pumpkin Festival: Director will meet with the City Manager and Police Chief ASAP to share library concerns regarding public use and potential abuse of library property. Determination needs to be made as to whether the library should be open on October 24. Director will report back to Trustees after the meeting. Heroes for Heroes luncheon was hosted by LPL in Laconia Rotary Hall last Friday. Full house, including numerous police officers and fire department personnel. Good coverage in the Daily Sun. Successful Teen program “Henna Tattoos” held on Monday. New Board Game Night drop-in program to begin August 19. Library will be participating in National Police Night Out on Tuesday evening, August 4. Sandwich board display sign will be purchased for promotion of library events. Director will contact Lakes Region Public Access officials about the possibility of producing a spot to feature library news. Next meetings: September 24; November 19 (5:00pm.)
