Volpe Conference Room
Call to Order: Laconia Public Library Board of Trustees held their regular monthly meeting in Volpe Conference
Room. Chairman John Moriarty called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m.
Present: James Anderson, Kimberly Danosi, John Perley, Liz Rosenfeld (6:10), Bob Selig, and Director Randy
Brough. Alternate Nadine Jordan was present and seated for Glenn Smith. Not Present: New alternate Linda
Phelps and City Council Liaison Brenda Baer

Secretary’s Report:
Minutes of September 29, 2016 approved. Motion Selig; Second: Danosi
Unanimous
Treasurer’s Report: Financial report for September was discussed and approved. Motion: Anderson; Second:
Perley; one abstention
Checking account balance will be maintained below $2000.00
Technology / STEM:
Liz in coordination with library staff will be leading a Bee Bots program for grades K-5 in December, and teaching
an hour of code for older children in January.
In October, a STEM Kit Exploration program was held. 10 participants enjoyed playing with the various kits. The
same program is going to be held in the evening on November 14.
Randy will approach Holy Trinity about their ideas for teaching STEM. He will also approach NHTI-Concord about
the availability of faculty to teach a class at LPL.

Challenger: Soaring with Christa - presentation by History at Play enacting the life and career of Christa McAuliffe
Personnel:
Lois Brady has been hired as a library assistant and will begin work on November 28. Cindy Welch has informed the
director that she will be retiring on December 31, 2016. An applicant who applied for the position filled by Lois
Brady will be contacted about filling Cindy’s library assistant position.
Building: BPS repaired a broken tread plate on the Church Street entrance steps. BPS is preparing a cost estimate
for a more permanent and comprehensive plan, with construction/repairs to begin in the spring.
Director’s Report: New carpet has been installed in the Teen Room.
Thank you luncheon for Opeechee Garden Club, CBH Landscaping and Laconia Parks & Rec was held last month.
Library Pumpkin Fest programming was well attended. Overall numbers were down from last year.
Local library coop meets at LPL next week.
LPL team won annual Lakes Region Scholarship Foundation Spelling Bee. Special thanks to Caleb Kneuer and Jamie
Dalton, and team sponsor Bob Merwin.
Old Business:
Bob Selig updated the Board on the current status of the Memorandum of Understanding concerning future library
use of the renovated Colonial Theater.
New Business:
Finance Committee Chair Anderson will schedule a Committee meeting to prepare FY 2017/2018 budget. City has
instructed departments that budgets can increase no more than 1%.
Chairman Moriarty updated the Board on the Eversource plan to “retain and maintain two existing pad mounted
transformers currently located near the southerly boundary of library property at Church Street; and beginning at
a point near the southeast corner of the property at Church Street and extending underground in a northwesterly
direction 330 feet, more or less, to a proposed switchgear/manhole and sector cabinet”.
On a motion by Selig, seconded by Anderson, Board voted unanimously to loan two antique fire trumpets owned
by LPL to the Laconia Fire Department for a period of five years, with a library option to renew the loan.
On a motion by Selig, seconded by Rosenfeld, Board voted unanimously to reduce microfilm reader/printer copy
charge from $.50/page to $.25/page for Gerald P. Bourgeois for the express and limited purpose of conducting
research relative to writing and publishing a history of the Laconia Fire Department.
