December 8, 2016 Laconia Public Library Board of Trustees Minutes of Meeting December 8, 2016 Volpe Conference Room Call to Order: Laconia Public Library Board of Trustees held their regular monthly meeting in Volpe Conference Room. Chairman John Moriarty called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. Present: James Anderson, John Perley, Liz Rosenfeld, Bob Selig, Glenn Smith and Director Randy Brough. Alternates Nadine Jordan and Linda Phelps. Not Present: Kimberly Danosi, and City Council Liaison Brenda Baer. Chairman seated Alternate Phelps for Kim Danosi. Reports: Secretary’s Report: Minutes of November 3, 2016 approved. Motion Selig; Second: Rosenfeld Unanimous Treasurer’s Report: Financial report for October was discussed and approved. Motion: Selig; Second: Anderson Unanimous Checking account balance is $2650.00 2017-2018 library budget was reviewed. Under mandate to increase operating budget by no more than 1%. Director will submit budget that includes $1,000.00 increase for internet services and $2000.00 for programming. Technology / STEM: STEM kit exploration was held Monday evening, 11/14. Kits will be available for check out in January. Liz brought Bee-Bots for a library program after school, 12/6. Timber rattlesnake program was held 11/10. McAuliffe-Shepard Discover Center is presenting a program “Living and Working in Space” 1/10. Mount Washington Observatory will be visiting in March. Hour of Code program 1/17. Loraine has contacted Holy Trinity faculty about teaching STEM. Personnel: Lois Brady began working as a library assistant on 11/28. Amanda Alwyn began working as library assistant on 12/5. Director’s Report: Distributed copies of a recent Wall Street Journal article (recommended by Olie) entitled “The Need to Read”, a powerful argument for the value of reading. Purl Jam knitting group is knitting winter hats for teens. City of Laconia is in the process of selecting a company to re-design the current city website. City IT Specialist Nick Cantara would like to include all departments in the re-design process. There is no charge to the library to participate. Consensus of Board is to not be involved at this time. Old Business: Board voted to transfer $200,000.00 from the General Fund of Laconia Public Library Trust Account to the Cultural Arts Center of the Lakes Region. Motion: Anderson; Second: Selig Unanimous Upcoming meetings: January 26; March 23; April 27; May 25; June 22 at 5:00pm in Volpe Room. Meeting adjourned at 6:40pm. Respectfully submitted,
