Working session on Co-hort project: Information signs and gardens on the W.O.W. Trail
~ Irving Oil Company told Dean that we could not put our proposed pollinator garden on their property
since they are still testing for contaminants.
~ We had discussion on sites for the rain garden and pollinator garden. The rain garden will go on the
left side of the open clearing at the beginning of the trail, off Messer St. The garden will be on the slope
running down to the DPW parking lot. The pollinator garden will be on the left side of the clearing, next
to the woods and the edge of the slope down to Lake Opechee. The gardens’ will be 10’ by 10’, or
smaller. We should take a soil sample to see if enrichment is needed. For the pollinator garden we will
put down cardboard pieces, covered with soil to knock down the weeds. We will need to increase the
budget for Coast-of-Maine garden soil; probably around $300.00. We will need to call Dig-Safe before
we start gardens.
~ We agree on 5 signs to start. Dean will get some quotes from Winnisquam Printing, Gator Signs,
and Paquette Signs.
~ We discussed the use of security cameras on the W.O.W. Trail. It would be good to have one at the
clearing where the gardens will be.

~ Dean will email Wendy to ask how many slides we should have in our presentation in April. Also to
get her thoughts on changes to the language used on the signs.
~ April 22 is Earth Day. Let’s put article in the paper describing our project.
~ We need to talk to city I.T. staff about QR Code for our signs. We will link them all to our
Conservation Commission page on the city website, under education. Links on that page already
include some of our sign subjects.
