CITY OF LACONIA HERITAGE COMMISSION
October 11, 2017
MINUTES
I. CALL TO ORDER: C. Tokarz called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m.
II. PRESENT: C. Tokarz, D. Duffy, M. Hoey, M. Boudman, J. Whitehead.
ABSENT: A. Doyle
STAFF: D. Wood (recording the meeting)
III. MINUTES: The Minutes of the meeting on September 13, 2017 were reviewed. D. Duffy made a
motion to approve the Minutes. M. Hoey seconded the motion, and it was approved unanimously.
IV. CITY COUNCIL LIAISON REPORT: None
V. PLANNING BOARD UPDATE: Nothing pertinent to the Heritage Commission.
VI. OLD BUSINESS
A. Area Studies/Photography: C. Tokarz asked M. Boudman to check her calendar for November
and e-mail her dates she would be available to help with the pictures. She also extended an
invitation to all members who would like to join them
B. Property Restoration Recognition: D. Duffy said she had made a change to the certificate draft
but was out of ink so she didn’t print it. Catherine asked if anyone had any suggestions for
properties to be recognized. J. Whitehead said she and D. Duffy saw 229 Pleasant Street, but the
renovations are not complete yet. C. Tokarz also suggested the Beacon Street West Condos,
formerly the Allen-Rogers Mill. This was tabled until the next meeting.
C. St. Joseph’s Church: Nothing new.
D. Irving Buildings: C. Tokarz said the building on Messer Street was slowly being dismantled.
E. C. Tokarz reminded members to get their picture ID’s
VII. NEW BUSINESS
A. Historic Structure Directory: C. Tokarz said she is resurrecting the old directory and going to
send it to the Laconia Daily Sun and also Nancy Brown to put in Laconia Links.
B. Weirs Beach Drive-In: C. Tokarz said that the sale fell through and if no new sale offer is
received, the drive-in may reopen next year.
C. D. Duffy suggested that the Commission could organize a tour of the downtown buildings, similar to
the historic tours of Pleasant Street that were done by the Historic Society. C. Tokarz asked D.
Duffy to do an outline for the next meeting. J. Whitehead also suggested a virtual walking tour of
old Laconia.
VIII. PUBLIC COMMENTS: None
IX. ADJOURNMENT: D. Duffy made a motion to adjourn, which was seconded by M. Boudman, and the
meeting was adjourned at 5:45 p.m.
