CITY OF LACONIA HERITAGE COMMISSION DECEMBER 11, 2018 MINUTES I. CALL TO ORDER: J. Whitehead called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. II. PRESENT: J. Whitehead (Chair), M. Hoey, M. Boudman, C. Tokarz, M. Sweet, M. Haynes ABSENT: D. Duffy STAFF: D. Wood (recording the meeting) III. MINUTES: The Minutes of the meeting on November 14, 2018 were reviewed. M. Sweet made a motion to approve the Minutes. M. Hoey seconded the motion, and it was approved unanimously. IV. CITY COUNCIL LIAISON REPORT: M. Haynes said there was not a lot to report other than there will be a second meeting this week for the Master Plan about the downtown area and discussion on the parking garage. V. PLANNING BOARD UPDATE: None VI. LAKESHORE REDEVELOPMENT COMMISSION MEETING: A. December 4th meeting report: J. Whitehead said she has been appointed to the committee. B. Articles in Laconia Daily Sun – J. Whitehead passed around the following articles: 1. “Senior living out in latest plan for State School” Dec. 5 pp. 1,6 – J. Whitehead said that senior living is out and not to be considered in the plan. 2. “Questions about State School land linger” Dec. 7, pp. 1,6 – J. Whitehead said there was a list of some of the buildings to be saved, but this was not a done deal yet. J. Whitehead said she attended the meeting and toured the area the next day to see the buildings. C. Tokarz said she hoped they could preserve a lot of the buildings and put them to new use. J. Whitehead said there will be a meeting on December 20, 2018 (9 a.m.) at the Rist Frost Building on Water Street if any Commissioners were interested in attending. VII. RECENT ARTICLES IN LACONIA DAILY SUN ON PLANS FOR ST. JOSEPH’S – J. Whitehead passed around the following articles: A. “Pray tell: City Hall move to church site floated” Nov. 28, pp. 1,7 – M. Haynes said parking at City Hall has been an issue, and people do not want to use the parking garage. He also said there was nothing new on plans for the church property. B. “Pope urges charity when churches are sold, reused” Dec. 1, p 21 – J. Whitehead said she thinks the Pope did get the letter she wrote. She also passed around the article that was in the newspaper. VIII. OLD BUSINESS: regional preservation news A. “Moultonborough seeks sale or lease of French-Taylor House” Laconia Sun, Dec. 5 – Jane Whitehead passed around the newspaper article and said this is the house they had toured last year. The French- Taylor House is one of the NH Preservation Alliance’s Seven to Save and incentives may be available. They are looking for a new use of the building. B. “Lakes Region groups among those sharing L CHIP money” Laconia Sun, Dec. 8 – Jane Whitehead passed around the newspaper article. Belmont’s $110,000 grant will help toward the relocation of the historic Gale School to a new site where it can be converted into agency or professional space. IX. NEW BUSINESS: None X. PUBLIC COMMENTS: None XI. ADJOURNMENT: C. Tokarz made a motion to adjourn, which was seconded by M. Sweet. The meeting was adjourned at 5:45 p.m.
