CITY OF LACONIA HERITAGE COMMISSION MARCH 13, 2019 MINUTES I. Call to Order: Jane Whitehead called the meeting to order at 5:00 p.m. II. Present: J. Whitehead, D. Duffy, M. Boudman, C. Tokarz, M. Sweet, M. Haynes Staff: D. Wood (recording the meeting) III. Minutes: The Minutes of the meeting on February 20, 2019 were reviewed. Dorothy Duffy made a motion to approve the Minutes. Michael Sweet seconded the motion, and it was approved unanimously. IV. City Council Liaison Report: Mark Haynes said there were 2 things:  Short-term rentals – on March 25, 2019 at 6 pm in Council Chambers, there will be a meeting of the subcommittee, and they would like input from the public and Council regarding short-term rentals.  Money for the Colonial Theater has passed Council unanimously so the project can now move forward. V. Planning Board Update: Dorothy Duffy and Michael Sweet both said that there was nothing that would pertain to the Heritage Commission. VI. Lakeshore Redevelopment Commission, Advisory Committee meeting, February 22, and Commission meeting, February 28, 2019: Jane Whitehead said at the meeting on February 22nd there was discussion about creating a monument to the school. At the Commission meeting on February 28th there was discussion of environmental studies that had been done. Ground water sampling was done and found some asbestos which was stable in old pipes. VII. Old Business: Committee to research buildings on former Laconia State School property. Jane Whitehead said the Heritage Commission needs to look at the significance of the structures. Jane said they need to get a map and names/dates associated with the buildings. Michael Sweet said he could print out a map, so Jane will send him the link VIII. New Business: A demolition permit application was received for 28 Pendleton Beach Road. Catherine Tokarz said there doesn’t look like any historic significance. Michael Sweet made a motion to approve the DEMO application. Catherine Tokarz seconded the motion. All commissioners were in favor so Jane Whitehead approved the DEMO application. IX. Recent articles of interest in Laconia Daily Sun: Jane Whitehead said on March 2, 2019, there was an article about the Center Harbor Heritage Commission making an inventory map. Jane said it might be a good idea to access this map, which they could use for reference with their work in Laconia. X. Public Comments: None XI. Adjournment: Mary Ellen Boudman moved to adjourn at 5:55 pm. Michael Sweet seconded the motion and the vote passed unanimously.
