Laconia Human Relations Committee November 14, 2022 - Meeting Minutes I. CALL TO ORDER David Stamps welcomed everyone to the meeting of the Laconia Human Relations Committee. Committee member roll call was taken, a quorum was established, and the meeting was called to order at 3:32pm. II. ATTENDANCE Present – Chair David Stamps, Carol Pierce, David Osman, Matt Soza, Trish Weatherbee, Janet Simmons, Rev. Judith Wright, Pat Wood, Kay Anderson and Carrie Chandler Excused – Mayor Andrew Hosmer, Kate Bruchacova, Seifu Ragassa III. MINUTES Matt Soza made a motion to approve the minutes of the October 11, 2022 and October 31, 2022 meetings; seconded by Rev. Judith Wright; with no further discussion the minutes were approved as written. IV. OLD BUSINESS Multicultural Festival A meeting has been scheduled on January 13th with Becky Guyer to discuss how to move forward with next year’s festival. The sub-committee (Trish, Carol, Janet, Rev. Judith) will meet prior to formulate an action plan for discussion at the December 12th committee meeting; including job description(s). Anti-Hate Response - Stickers Action Steps: 1. Confirm with Miriam about the below – David S. 2. Edit letter to provide when approaching businesses to explain and legitimize the effort – Carrie 3. Generate a list of businesses to approach – committee members to sign up for various businesses – Carrie 4. Article in the Daily Sun with photo of sticker explaining the project – David S 5. Jim Carroll’s statement in the paper – David S 6. Distribute the stickers following the December meeting (before Christmas) – committee members Martin Luther King Jr. Art Event Elaine Morrison is finding great interest amongst the art community. Mayor Hosmer will reach out to the Superintendent of Schools to see if there is interest. Janet has reached out to Lorraine Barrows and she is interested in putting together a gospel choir. Lakes Region Mental Health has offered over- flow space if needed. 1  Kristallnacht Remembrance The November 9th event at Temple B’Nai Israel was well attended. Hopefully there will be follow up in the Daily Sun. V. PUBLIC COMMENTS There was no one present for public comment. VI. ADJOURNMENT Meeting was adjourned at 4:34p by Chair David Stamps.
