Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Planning Committee Notes November 7. 2024 at 10 AM. Meeting at The Unitarian Universalist Society Laconia, NH Present: Trish Weatherbee, Matt Soza, and Rev. Judith Wright Unable to attend: Richard Littlefield and Faith Pakasuk Discussion : 1. We planned for the two film showings at the library on January 17 th and 24 th . We need to check with the library about starting at 1 pm and ending at 4 pm. Matt agreed to do this. Richard will be taking care of the flyer and on-line advertisement. We will post also in Laconia links as well as post flyer around town _ Matt with see to these. At actual event – Matt will introduce the film. There will be index cards for folks to write down any thoughts or questions. 1:15-2:45 PM - Show the film. Henry Weatherbee will be in charge of showing the film each time. 2:45 to 3 pm Refreshments Trish will bring coffee. 3 pm to 4 pm Discussion. We are looking for two people from the LHRC to lead these discussions. Trish has for each event 2-3 teachers that she will specifically invite to help stimulate discussion. Invite specific groups to these two showings : Interfaith clergy, Lakes Region Mental Health Center, Laconia Human Relations Committee, Schools, Interact at the High School which is run by the Rotary, Tech School (Trish will ask), Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts, Restorative Justice. 2. Schedule for the MLK Program on January 19 th at the Colonial: 2 pm Introduction – Pat Wood (3 minutes) Welcome Mayor Hosmer (3 minutes Any dignitaries - ?? minutes? 2:15 Documentary 2:45: Dr. Benaquist 3:15: Panel Discussion - What does the legacy of Dr. King mean to you? So far we have Paula Chambers (Judith will check with her again), Asheena, and Trish is inviting Shabez Mote. We need one more panelist. 3:35: Community Discussion 3:55 Closing – Richard Littlefield 4:00 Powerchords sing one song as folks line up for the Solidarity march or exit through the side door. Debbie Brady is creating a painting for this event. We will show it in the foyer as folks arrive, and move it up to the front stage as the program begins. 4x6 feet.
