Human Relations Committee

Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Celebration Planning Committee January 9, 2025 Present: Trish Weatherbee, Matt Soza, Faith Pakasuk, Rev. Judith Wright, Lena Nirk. Unable to be present : Richard Littlefield Discussion : 1. We discussed the distribution of our two flyers for these events. Matt is posting a number of flyers around Laconia, as well as Laconia Links. Richard has posted on Laconia’s Talking and Laconia is really talking. Faith is posting in the schools and Boys and Girls Club. Trish is posting in Isaiah 61, St. Vincent’s, and other places around town. Rev. Judith has sent the flyers to the Greater Laconia Ministerial Association and will, along with Matt, distribute the flyers at the Laconia Human Relations meeting on January 13th. The cost of the flyers is about $ 150. 2. Other advertising. Rev. Judith agreed to try to get our events posted on the Daily Sun calendar, as well as talk with the advertising department about what would be the best strategy for us to advertise through the Daily Sun. She also agreed to write a letter to the editor in the Daily Sun about these three events. 3. We went over the Program for the Colonial event and discussed how best to have Lena introduce each person in the program. The last day to add to the Program is the 16th. 4. Technical issues have been resolved thanks to Trish and Henry Weatherbee’s on- going efforts to communicate with both Dr. Benaquist and with Adam at the Colonial. We are very grateful to both Trish and Henry. 5. Richard will say his Closing Words, and also, we will have our Drawing at the end of the event. 6. Trish will get the words for the Power Chord songs to Rev. Judith for the Program. The Power Chords will be singing Cease the Day and Let There Be Peace on Earth. For the final song the audience will be invited to join the choir in singing We Shall Overcome. 7. Two Events at the Library: Patte Sarausky and Heather Stanley will facilitate the discussion of the movie Lost Boundaries on January 18th. We are looking for a discussion leader for the movie on the 25th. We are hoping that one or two folks from the LHRC will volunteer. 1 The group decided that we do not need to meet again before the 18th, and we can check in with one another on the 18th for any “tweaks” for the Colonial event the next day. “It has been a joy to work with this committee over the course of this past year.
