Laconia Putnam Fund Board of Trustees Meeting January 4, 2019 This meeting was called to order on January 4, 2019 at the Woodside Common located at the Taylor Community at 12:00 pm with the following in attendance: Linda Peary, Rich Landry, Jim Rogato and Betty Ballantyne. FINANCE: At this time, we had not received a year end report updating our rollover monies. We believe the amount available should be near $100,000 though it has not yet been confirmed. SUPERINTENDENT OF SCHOOLS – LACONIA: We discussed the resignation of the current Superintendent. We will make it a priority to reach out to our new Superintendent. Discussion was had with our concerns with the current Administrators and Principals. We have found less cooperation in the past couple of years. We are dependent to present programs at Laconia High School Auditorium and Laconia Middle School Gymnasium. The programs must be held in Laconia and the largest crowd capacity are at both schools. We have made available programs to multiple schools in Laconia and found we’ve had to reach out many times without response. Jen at the High School has always been co- operative, and she has been the most consistent person we can count on. PROGRAMS: Richard Wood & Gordan Belsher – Musicians – Fiddler & Guitar from Prince Edward Island. Show is set for Friday, March 8th at Laconia High School Auditorium at 7 pm. We discussed Clogging/Step Dancing and are reviewing that possibility. David S Brody Author has been invited again to present to Woodside Commons at the Taylor Community. The program will be held on Feb 20th at 6:30 pm. He may be discussing his new book The Swagger Sword or a Brendan the Navigator from Ireland to America. It was suggestion by Jim Rogata we consider a Folk Program. Names that came up in this discussion was Tom Rush, Katie Dobbins, Jack Palidora & Tom Paxton. The suggestion was well received and will be further pursued. Lecturer Eva Paddock: She would discuss Sir Nicholas Winton. A British Humanitarian who organized the rescue of 669 children mostly Jewish from Czechoslovakia at the start of World War II. Eva was one of the children placed on the train with her older sister. Winton arranged homes for the children and safe passage to Britain from the Germans. The Board ask of her speaking ability and knowledge. Betty will get further information.
