LACONIA PARKS AND RECREATION COMMISSION MEETING
MINUTES
1. CALL TO ORDER:
Monday, June 16, 2014 at 7:00pm at the Community Center
2. COMMISSION MEMBERS ATTENDANCE: Jeff Pattison (Chair), Dave Plourde,
George Hawkins, Rodney Roy, Kevin Dunleavy and Liza Kelleher. Absent-Mitch
Hamel
3. INTRODUCTION OF GUESTS: Ken and Bonnie Dyrsten, Chris Ennis, Zoe Jamison,
Beth San Soucie, Nikki Brady, Stephen McDonough, Janine Page, John Eichhorn and
Tony Felch.
4. ACCEPTANCE OF MINUTES: George Hawkins motioned to accept the meeting
minutes from last month. Dave Plourde seconded. All were in favor.
5. OLD BUSINESS:
Gilford Police Dept vs Meredith Police Dept Robbie Mills Field- Sunday,
September 7, 2014 from 3pm to 7pm for a charity fundraising softball game event. Mr.
Eichhorn stated that this a fundraising event that features former Patriots, Red Sox and
Bruins players. George Hawkins motioned to approve the request and waiving all the
fees except for the use of lights if used, including acceptance of a $1000.00 donation to
Parks & Recreation conditioned upon final approval from the City Council for the charity
fundraising event. Dave Plourde seconded. All were in favor.
6. FACILITY USE REQUESTS:
Weirs United Methodist Church- Weirs Park Amphitheater- Sunday, August 17,
2014 from 11:00~3pm for Family day/music. Dave Plourde motioned to accept the
request waiving the users’ fee and the use of 20lb. propane tanks for a family day,
conditioned upon a loudspeaker permit. if needed. If the group decides to raise money
or sell anything, they will also need City Council approval. Rodney Roy seconded. All
were in favor.
Belknap Mill Society-
● Rotary Park- Thursday, July 17, 2014 and Tuesday, July 29, 2014 from 5pm ~8pm
for a picnic in the park/ painting workshop. Rodney Roy motioned to accept the request.
Dave Plourde seconded. All were in favor.
● Rotary Park- Saturdays, August 2, 9, 23 September 6, 13, 20, 27, October 4, 18 and
25, 2014 from 8-2pm for an Art Market with 15-20 artists. George Hawkins motioned to
accept the request. Dave Plourde seconded. All were in favor.
Laconia Middle School
● LMS Cross Country - Opechee Park & Smith Track- August 12 to October 27,
2014 from 2:30-6:00pm for cross country. Dave Plourde motioned to accept the
request. George Hawkins seconded. All were in favor.
● LMS Field Hockey - Smith Field- August 12 to October 27, 2014 from 2:30-6:00pm
for field hockey. Dave Plourde motioned to accept the request. George Hawkins
seconded. All were in favor.
● LMS Soccer - Opechee Field- August 12 to October 27, 2014 from 2:30-6:00. Dave
Plourde motioned to accept the request. George Hawkins seconded. All were in
favor.
● LMS Football - Pleasant Street field- Monday through Friday, August 12 to
November 3, 2014 from 2:30 to 6:00pm for football practice. Dave Plourde motioned
to accept the request. George Hawkins seconded. All were in favor.
● LMS Track and Field - Smith Track- March 2015 to June 5, 2015 from 2:30-
7:00pm. Dave Plourde motioned to accept the request. George Hawkins seconded.
All were in favor.
● LMS Softball - Opechee field D- March to June 5, 2015 from 2:30-7:00 for Softball
games. Dave Plourde motioned to accept the request. George Hawkins seconded. All
were in favor.
● LMS Baseball - Memorial Baseball Field- March to June 5, 2015 from 2:30-7:00 for
baseball games. Dave Plourde motioned to accept the request. George Hawkins
seconded. All were in favor.
Making Strides Against Breast Cancer- Opechee bathhouse and field – October 15,
16, 17 and 19, 2014 for American Cancer Society fundraising event. The item was tabled
due to no representation.
Laconia High School Boys Basketball- Community Center Gym- Thursday and
Friday from 2:15 to 4:15 for summer basketball workouts. Rodney Roy motioned to
accept the request. George Hawkins seconded. All were in favor.
Evangelical Baptist Church- Opechee Point- Sunday, August 24th from 8am to 2pm
for a worship service and picnic. Motioned to accept the request with waiver for the use
of 20lb propane tanks and event fee for the picnic. Rodney Roy seconded. All were in
favor.
Genesis Behavioral Health- Community Center Conference room (Fishbowl) -
Mondays and Thursdays from 11:00-2:00pm (summer) and 2:15-4:15pm (school days)
for therapeutic activities (crafts & games). Dave motioned to accept the request for a 6
month trial period and requested Genesis re-apply on December for another request if
needed. Rodney Roy seconded. All were in favor.
Laconia Athletic & Swim Club- Opechee Park- June 14th through August 31st 2014
Monday, Wednesday & Friday from 6am to 8am and 4pm to 7pm for meetings/fitness
programs. Dave Plourde motioned to accept the request. George Hawkins seconded. All
were in favor. `
Cub Scouts Pack 68- Tardiff Park - Sunday June 22, 2014 from 1pm -4pm for the
end of the year picnic. Commissioners motioned to remove the item from the agenda due
to no representation.
American Legion Baseball- Memorial Baseball Field- June 1st thru August 1st from
9am to 11pm for their baseball season. Dave Plourde motioned to approve the request
conditioned upon agreement with Kevin Dunleavy and contingent upon the payment for
the storage fee from last year and this year of $480.00. Dave Plourde seconded. All
were in favor.
7. OTHER REQUESTS REQUIRING COMMISSION ACTION:
Laconia Athletic & Swim Club Proposal to distribute free bottled water at the
parks. George Hawkins motioned to accept the request for distribution of free
bottled water at the parks. Dave Plourde seconded. All were in favor.
Tardiff Parkhouse- Kevin Dunleavy discussed issues that the Department has
encountered with renters and the way the Tardif Park House has been managed
by volunteers in the recent past. George Hawkins motioned to approve that the
Parks & Recreation Department to take over the scheduling and management of
theTardif Park House. Dave Plourde seconded. All were in favor.

The meeting was adjourned at 7:55pm and the next meeting is scheduled for Monday, July
