CITY OF LACONIA SPECIAL EVENTS MOTORCYCLE WRAP-UP MEETING Tuesday, July 18, 2017 – 11:00 AM City Hall Conference Room 200A Minutes Accepted August 2, 2017 Call to Order B. Loughlin calls to order 11:01AM Roll Call Brandee Loughlin, Bernie Swan, Charlie Roffo, Dean Trefethen, Matt Canfield Public Meeting: Charlie Roffo from the Fire Department spoke and explained that they had no new issues this year, no issues that were unknown to them, and no major issues during the event. Chief Matt Canfield stated that the Police had a successful week with 71 arrests, 28 Protective Custodies, and no fatalities. Dean Trefethen the application process went smoothly, we had a few last minute applications that were sent to City Council. Inspections were conducted on a daily basis, most violations were fixed on the spot by vendors. Only a few problems one being an electronic sign, and another a camp ground that was set up, both were corrected. Dean also suggested that the City may want to talk about how violations are dealt with between departments. Bernie Swan stated that there was a problem with trash namely cardboard and that we should think about charging a fee for disposal. Brandee opens the meeting to the public for input at 11:04AM Charlie, President of the Motorcycle Week Association, stated that he has comments to make to individual departments but believes that should be done in private. Stated things went very well and commented on the great job that the Chief of Police did. Made comments regarding how nice the new layout of the Weirs was. Also thanked everyone for all of their hard work. Scott Myers, City Manager just a couple things from the City’s perspective. Thanked everyone in the City for all of their hard work that went into Motorcycle Week. From a financial end, the City broke even this year with all of the vender fees and permits. On August 28, the City Council will be having a meeting that will be open to the public as well for any input for the City’s role in renting our space for Motorcycle Week. In spring it was brought up that there were only five locations for food vendors and whether or not that is competing with other entities in the area, blocking visibility of traffic, and the financial impact to the City if we didn’t rent out those space or if we should rent out those spaces. Does that affect revenue accounts, and not coming out of the general fund where the tax payers are supporting the event? The City Manager also reintegrated that the City Council meeting on August 28 would be open to any form of input or suggestions for this event. The council is looking for any input whether e-mail, letters, or in person if someone wants to come in and talk about an idea or suggestion in the City’s role in renting spaces. Brandee, several properties changed their layout from prior years and it seemed to work out for the better. There were not a lot of issues this year. Also reminds people to please come to our regular special events meetings which are held the first Wednesday of every month at 12PM in Conference RM 200A.
