BOARD OF PUBLIC WORKS AND SAFETY MINUTES June 3, 2014 Regular Session: The Board of Public Works and Safety met in regular session on Tuesday, June 3, 2014 at 9:00 a.m. in the Common Council Chambers. Members present were: Cindy Murray, Norm Childress, Ron Shriner and Dawn Ross. Absent: Gary Henriott Ed Chosnek, City Attorney, was also present. Mrs. Murray called the meeting to order. The Pledge of Allegiance was given to the flag of our Country. MINUTES Mr. Childress moved for approval of the minutes from the May 27, 2014 regular meeting. Mrs. Ross seconded. Passed. BID OPENING Proposed Development Site: Soil Stockpile Removal This being the time set to open bids for the Proposed Development Site: Soil Stockpile Removal, the following bids were received and opened: F&K Construction Flora, Indiana Base Bid: $1,529,230.00 Rieth-Riley Construction Lafayette, Indiana Base Bid: $1,655,554.00 Milestone Contractors Lafayette, Indiana Base Bid: $3,556,000.00 Atlas Excavating West Lafayette, Indiana Base Bid: $2,376,250.00 HIS Constructors Indianapolis, Indiana Base Bid: $1,523,899.00 Mr. Shriner moved to take the bids under advisement for further review. Mr. Childress seconded. Passed. Board of Public Works and Safety June 3, 2014 Page 2 NEW BUSINESS Engineering Request for Tippecanoe Music Teachers Association Jenny Leshney, Public Works Director, presented to the Board and recommended approval of a Request for the Tippecanoe Music Teachers Association for Pianos on Main Street. Mrs. Leshney stated that the Engineer’s Office has looked at the various locations and found that there are no obstructions or issues with placing them in the public right of way. Caryl Matthews, Event Representative, stated that the pianos would be on display and left for all to enjoy from July 11-28, 2014. Mrs. Ross moved for approval. Mr. Childress seconded. Passed. CLAIMS Mike Jones, Controller, presented for Board approval, Claims in the amount of $2,551,833.34. Mrs. Murray asked if there were any further questions and there were none. Mr. Shriner moved for approval. Mrs. Ross seconded. Passed. MISCELLANEOUS Event Street Closure Request-Celebration Day 5K Kari Cunningham, Club Newtone Manager, presented to the Board and recommended approval of an Event Street Closure Request for Celebration Day 5K to be held on July 4, 2014 from 7:30am-10:00am at Union Street and Munger Park. All of the proceeds will go to Lafayette Parks Foundation to place fitness equipment outside in the parks. Mr. Childress moved for approval. Mrs. Ross seconded. Passed. Event Street Closure Request-Whole Truth Apostolic Faith Assembly Mrs. Murray presented to the Board and recommended approval of an Event Street Closure Request for the Whole Truth Apostolic Faith Assembly Community Yard Sale and Festival to be held on June 13, 2014 at 6:00pm through June 14, 2014 at 6:00pm at the church located at 901 S. 19th Street. Mr. Childress moved for approval. Mr. Shriner seconded. Passed. ANNOUNCEMENT Kerry Smith, Water Works Superintendent, announced that Ron Hurst is the new Assistant Superintendent for Water Works effective yesterday. Mr. Hurst has worked for the City of Lafayette for 28 years.
