AREA BOARD OF ZONING APPEALS OF T1PPECANOE COUNTY LAFAYETTE DIVISION November 21, 2022 The City of Lafayette Board of Zoning Appeals met in regular session on Monday, November 21, 2022 at 4:00 PM. Members present were: Jackson Bogan, Dave Williams, Dick Murray, Bob Metzger and Carlynn Smith. The meeting was called to order by Mr. Began. Mr. Williams moved to approve the minutes of the previous meeting as distributed; second by Mr. Metzger. The motion passed by unanimous voice vote. NEW BUSINESS: 2022-28 MISTIE NIGH -ASA ABOVE THE REST, LLC Variance to increase the total sign area to 233.15 SF instead of the allowed 109.2 SF. Property located at 1904 ELMWOOD AVE. Mr. Williams moved to hear and approve the petition; second by Mr. Metzger. Mistie Night, agent for the petitioner, presented the petition. Ms. Nigh stated that if our ordinance did not block entire signs out but instead let us take each letter's separate dimension into account, their proposed sign wouid be under the maximum allowed for this property. She believes it will be a beautiful sign and it will look great on the building, it allows the school to be noticed and identified from the street. It will not be illuminated so it will not cause any sort of distractions. Tommy Reddicks, CEO of Paramount Schools of Excellence, spoke in favor of the variance. He believes the sign is very respectful and is designed to let people in the community know that they are there. Victoria Matney, interim Co-CEO of Right Steps Child Development Centers, also spoke in favor of the variance. Right Steps is hoping to partner with Paramount Schools of Excellence and they believe the proposed sign really helps direct people to this site, especially those who might be coming from other communities. The board voted by ballot: 1) 5 yes 0 no. Petition GRANTED Mr. Williams made a motion to approve the 2023 BZA Calendar as submitted; second by Mr. Metzger. The motion passed by unanimous voice vote. The next meeting of the Lafayette Board of Zoning Appeals will be on Tuesday, January 17,2023 at 4:00 PM.
