Attendance: Julie Ginn, Gale Payne, Scott Gilkey, Ellie Haan, Dick Nagel, Rick Schwarz, Carrie Janney

Guests: Joanna Retherford (800 Main Street)
Seeing a quorum Commission Vice-President Rick Schwarz called the meeting to order at 7:00 pm.
Approval of Minutes
Ellie moved to approve the minutes from the March 26, 2012 meeting. Carrie seconded. The motion passed 6-0.
Committee Reports
Public Relations Committee
Brian reported that the Public Relations Committee had not met prior to the meeting.
District Committee
Brian reported that the District Committee had not met prior to the meeting.
COA Committee
Brian reported that the COA Committee had not met prior to the meeting.
COA Requests
800 Main Street – New Sign and Lighting Installation
Applicant Joanna Retherford presented her application for a new blade sign on an existing bracket and the
installation of spot lighting to illuminate the sign. Julie motioned to approve the application as submitted, Gale
provided a second and the motion was opened for discussion.
Brian noted that the application met the components of the draft signage design guidelines and that staff
recommended approval.
Seeing no further discussion on the motion, Rick called for a vote. The motion passed 6-0.
New Business
Adoption of Signage Design Guidelines
Brian presented the final draft of the signage design guidelines and noted that this final version had been reviewed
by the City Attorney and met his approval. Ellie motioned to adopt the guidelines in their final format, Carrie
provided a second. Seeing no discussion Rick called for a vote and the motion passed 6-0.
Staff Report
Brian reported on the following items:
The City may be hosting a training program called CAMP (Commission Assistance Mentoring Program)
during the summer of 2013. If the City moves forward the Commissioners would need to commit to
attending the program and possibly assisting with coordination.
There had been no staff approvals during the month of April.
A resolution is in the works to allow staff to approve signs as long as they meet the guidelines passed in
tonight’s meeting.

Adjournment
With no further public comment and no further business Dick moved to adjourn the meeting at 7:20 pm. Gale
seconded. The motion was approved 6-0. The next meeting of the Lafayette Historic Preservation
Commission is scheduled for Monday, May 21, 2012 at 7:00pm in the Board of Works Room, Lafayette City
Hall.
