Call meeting to order 12:01 p.m. Vice President Susan Brouillette called meeting to order and took roll call of commission members. *Approval of July 26, 2018 Minutes: Cliff Cox made motion to approve minutes, Kara Boyles 2nd, all approved. 2. Old business *Nominate and vote on Chair: Chad Aldridge nominated Stephen Smith for Chair position. Cassie Wade made a motion to appoint Stephen Smith as Chair, Joel Wright 2nd, all approved. 3. New Business *Kim provided 2019 meeting schedule: January 24 April 25 July 25 October 24 4. Member Updates (festivals, website, brochures) *Outreach Committee: Cassie Wade and Kara Boyles provided update about OUTfest, Global Fest, and Latino Festival. The City of Lafayette HRC partnered with other local commissions to have a booth at the festivals. Cassie met with Sean O'Reilly from the City of Lafayette to update the brochure. Commission members requested that the Outreach Committee send the proposed changes/updated brochure to the group for approval. Cassie advised the commission that Sean had created specific flyers for Outfest and the Latino Festival. Cassie discussed pros/cons of maintaining a Human Relations Commission Facebook page. Pros: We can post items related to social justice more easily than the City, more control of contact. Cons: Building social media presence, having enough information to engage users. If we maintain specific HRC Facebook page the City can share postings. Commission members requested Outreach Committee make proposal to commission via email for approval. 5. Staff Report *Kim Meyer advised commission members that there were 2 complaints since the last meeting: Garth Norris and Nicole Stewart filed complaints against the Lafayette Police Department. The commission declined to hear the complaints as they were against city departments and they were recommended to contact the Indiana Civil Rights Commission. *Kim Meyer advised business cards for commission members have been issued, name plates for the meeting were issued, and a new banner was created. New complaint forms are located at the 515 building and Kim is working to have the complaint form on the website. *Kim Meyer advised that 3 individuals would need to be appointed to new terms in 2019: Chad Aldridge, Stephen Smith, and Cassie Wade *Susan Brouillette asked if signage was present at the 515 building to alert visitors about the complaint form. Kim advised that she would check and follow up. She announced that there was a Port of Hope fundraising event for the LUM Immigration Clinic on November 8 at the Lafayette Brewing Company. 6. Adjourn *Joel Wright made motion to adjourn, Kara Boyles 2nd, all approved. Meeting adjourned at 12:19 p.m.
