REGULAR MEETING OF THE
LAFAYETTE PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD
4:00 pm
11 January 2021
The City of Lafayette Parks and Recreation Board met in regular meeting at 4:00pm, January 11,
2020. The meeting was held via virtual “gotomeeting” which was livestreamed through City of
Lafayette’s Youtube channel.
The meeting was called to order by Park Board President, Maurie Denney. Board members
present were Pat Corey, Dave Mecklenburg and Matt Metzger. Parks Director of Operations Jon
Miner, City Controller Tim Clary, Marketing Manager Samantha Haville, Zoo Director Neil
Dale, McAllister Recreation Center Manager Chad Aldridge, Maintenance Manager Mike Perry
and Recording Secretary Jenny Spencer were also present. All votes will be taken via roll call.
Election of Officers
Upon motion by Mr. Mecklenburg, seconded by Ms. Corey, and unanimously carried,
Maurie Denney was approved to serve second year as Park Board President.
Upon motion by Mr. Metzger, seconded by Mr. Mecklenburg, and unanimously carried,
Pat Corey was approved to serve second year as Park Board Vice President.
Upon motion by Ms. Corey, seconded by Mr. Mecklenburg, and unanimously carried,
Matt Metzger was approved to serve as Park Board Secretary.
Upon motion by Mr. Mecklenburg, seconded by Mr. Metzger, and unanimously carried,
Jenny Spencer was approved as Recording Secretary.
Upon motion by Ms. Corey, seconded by Mr. Mecklenburg, and unanimously carried, minutes of
the December 14, 2020 Parks Board meeting were approved.
Upon motion of Mr. Metzger seconded by Mr. Mecklenburg, and unanimously carried, General
Fund Claims in the amount of $8,126.36, Non-Reverting Fund Claims in the amount of
$1,477.87 and Bond Fund Claims of $459,234.38 for a total of $468,838.61 were approved.
Superintendent’s Report
Superintendent Laufman introduced McAllister Recreation Center Manager Chad
Aldridge to report on status of winter basketball. There are 129 registrants as of
today compared to 167 at this time last year. Summer Camp registration has also
begun with 11 campers registered compared to 32 last year.
Superintendent Laufman updated on progress on the Carousel project. The
exterior portion has been tented to construe masonry work with painting and dry
wall work on the interior. The rail is being changed to comply with Homeland

Security requirements. The gas line and storm structure are being worked on as
well.
Superintendent Laufman also gave an update on the Memorial Island project.
Seawall continues to be installed. The lagoon bottom continues to be re-graded to
help support seawall. Some stairs have been poured as well.
Director of Operations Miner updated on Loeb Stadium. The sidewalk on Main
Street is being poured and masonry work is being done on the columns. The
kitchen and concession equipment were delivered. Work continues in the suite
level as well as locker rooms. Park Maintenance is working on landscape along
pathway between Tropicanoe Cove and the stadium. Requests for Proposals will
be going out for signage, trash/recycling receptacles and beverage service. An
RFQ for the furnace is also upcoming.
Director of Operations Miner also updated on new registration software in use
also to be used for online rental of facilities.
Marketing Manager Haville provided media updates. Light Up Loeb had Journal
& Courier, Star City News and WLFI in attendance. The Bronze Armadillo
Medallion donated to the Zoo by the Branson family has been installed. Social
media following is up to 10,300 Facebook, 2350 Instagram and 3900 Twitter
followers. Have two Purdue Marketing students as interns to help with social
media expansion efforts.

There being no further business to come before the Board, on motion of Mr. Mecklenburg,
seconded by Ms. Corey, and unanimously carried, the meeting adjourned at 4:27 pm.
