Parks Board

REGULAR MEETING OF THE LAFAYETTE PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD 3:00 pm 15 March 2021 The City of Lafayette Parks and Recreation Board met in regular meeting at 3:00pm, March 15, 2021. The meeting was held at Rush Pavilion in Columbian Park. The meeting was called to order by Park Board Vice-President Pat Corey. Board members present were Dave Mecklenburg and Matt Metzger. Park Superintendent Claudine Laufman, Parks Director of Operations Jon Miner, Assistant City Controller Jeremy Diehl, Deputy City Attorney and Park Board Attorney Jacque Chosnek, Marketing Manager Samantha Haville, McAllister Recreation Center Manager Chad Aldridge, Maintenance Manager Mike Perry and Recording Secretary Jenny Spencer were also present. Upon motion by Mr. Metzger, seconded by Mr. Mecklenburg, and unanimously carried, minutes of the February 8, 2021 Parks Board meeting were approved. Upon motion of Mr. Metzger, seconded by Mr. Mecklenburg, and unanimously carried, General Fund Claims in the amount of $12,595.78, Non-Reverting Fund Claims in the amount of $1,813.93 for a total of $14,409.71 were approved. Upon motion of Mr. Mecklenburg, seconded by Mr. Metzger and unanimously carried, Resolution 21-01 amending park rule 4 regarding alcohol was approved. Upon motion by Mr. Metzger, seconded by Mr. Mecklenburg and unanimously carried, amended 2021 fees and charges were approved. Superintendent’s Report  Superintendent Laufman outlined the research and committee work that went into the decision to amend park rule 4. Successful alcohol use at Aviators games, by neighboring municipalities and due diligence performed in committee work assisted the Board in the decision-making process. Ms. Corey further expanded on the Protection Principles used by the Alcohol Committee in their recommendation to approve the amendment. Alcohol Committee report attached. Mr. Metzger and Mr. Mecklenburg both expressed their support due to the thorough nature of research and responsible approach to the process.
