REGULAR MEETING OF THE LAFAYETTE PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD 4:00 pm 26 July 2021 The City of Lafayette Parks and Recreation Board met in regular meeting at 4:00pm, July 26, 2021. The meeting was held at Rush Pavilion in Columbian Park. The meeting was called to order by Park Board President, Maurie Denney. Board members present were Dave Mecklenburg, Pat Corey and Matt Metzger. Park Superintendent Claudine Laufman, Parks Director of Operations Jon Miner, Marketing Manager Samantha Haville, Maintenance Manager Mike Perry, Security Director Kurt Wolf and Marketing and Special Events Coordinator Bridgett Haro were also present. Upon motion by Ms. Corey, seconded by Mr. Metzger, and unanimously carried, minutes of the July 12, 2021 Parks Board meeting were approved. Upon motion of Mr. Mecklenburg, seconded by Mr. Metzger, and unanimously carried, General Fund Claims in the amount of $67, 179.18, Non-Reverting Fund Claims in the amount of $49,288.35 for a total of $116,467.53 were approved. Superintendent’s Report • Superintendent Laufman provided an update on steady pace of shelter rentals. • Marketing Manager Haville introduced Bridgett Haro, former intern and most recently full-time seasonal marketing assistant, as the new Marketing and Special Events Coordinator. Ms. Haville also updated on recent and upcoming media coverage for Art in the Park and Zoo Run Run. The announcement of the arrival of the penguin stories shared on WLFI and Journal & Courier and events surrounding the penguin’s arrival were outlined. Other upcoming events include the final Art in the Park on August 3 at Memorial Island and a Free Day in Columbian Park on September 4. Ms. Haville also provided a Social Media update and informed the Board that there are now over 1400 Zoo Members. • Director of Operations Miner provided an Aquatics update. Tropicanoe Cove has had over 18,600 guests, averaging 810/day and will be closing Labor Day. Castaway Bay and Vinton Pools will be closing August 8. The Pooch Plunge will be at Castaway Aug. 10-12. • Mr. Miner also provided an update of Loeb Stadium work. There are still punch list items. The contractors hope to progress through those in the next couple weeks. The Aviators have had a successful season and will participate in the playoffs. Jeff High School will have soccer at Loeb this fall. The field will be striped August 10 or 13 depending on the end of the Aviators’ season. • Superintendent Laufman informed the Board that our maintenance coordinator along with Madmen Creative are working to install all permanent signs in Loeb. Park Board Minutes 7/26/2021 Page 1 Ms. Laufman also updated on completion of the punch list of Memorial Island. There are still rails that are back ordered. A conversation around safety buoys around the lagoon and other parks ensued. Superintendent Laufman also updated that Zoo Director Dale is working to procure a pedal boat suitable for individuals with disabilities. • The Board of Works is opening bids for the Columbian Park Restroom project with plans for an August start and end of year completion.
