REGULAR MEETING OF THE LAFAYETTE PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD 4:00 pm 9 August 2021 The City of Lafayette Parks and Recreation Board met in regular meeting at 4:00pm, August 9, 2021. The meeting was held at Rush Pavilion in Columbian Park. The meeting was called to order by Park Board President, Maurie Denney. Board members present were, Pat Corey in person and Matt Metzger via Zoom call in. Park Superintendent Parks Director of Operations Jon Miner, Marketing Manager Samantha Haville, Maintenance Manager Mike Perry, Security Director Kurt Wolf, Zoo Director Neil Dale, Marketing and Special Events Coordinator Bridgett Haro and Recording Secretary Jenny Spencer were also present. Upon motion by Ms. Corey, seconded by Mr. Metzger, and unanimously carried via roll call vote, minutes of the July 26, 2021 Parks Board meeting were approved. Upon motion of Ms. Corey, seconded by Mr. Metzger, and unanimously carried via roll call vote, General Fund Claims in the amount of $94,265.55, Non-Reverting Fund Claims in the amount of $36,322.13 for a total of $130.578.68 were approved. Superintendent’s Report • Zoo Director Dale provided an update on the extraordinary numbers at the zoo this summer. So far numbers are more than double 2019 numbers. Attendance since Penguins have arrived has been outstanding. Still short staffed. Looking for part time working to get through the end of the season. Ms. Corey suggested to look at churches as a referral source for retirees looking for part-time help. Mr. Denney recommended using the member mailing list to look for referrals. Conversation ensued regarding staffing issues. • Marketing Manager Haville updated the Board on the success of the final Art in the Park. Vendors provided positive feedback on increased sales. Free day in the Park is Sept. 4, which coincides with the Laborer’s Picnic. • Director of Operations Miner updated that Castaway Bay and Vinton Pools are closed for the season. Pooch Plunge will be a Castaway Bay. Tropicanoe Cove is only open weekends until Labor Day. Final numbers will be out in September meeting.
