REGULAR MEETING OF THE
LAFAYETTE PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD
4:00 pm
8 January 2024
The City of Lafayette Parks and Recreation Board met in regular meeting at 4:00pm,
January 8, 2024. The meeting was held at Rush Pavilion in Columbian Park.
The meeting was called to order by Park Board President Matt Metzger. Board members present
were Dave Mecklenburg and Jan Abney. Mayor Tony Roswarski, City Clerk Cindy Murray,
Parks Superintendent Claudine Laufman, Parks Director of Operations Jon Miner, David
Huhnke, Patty Payne and Recording Secretary Jenny Spencer were present. Parks staff members
present were Mike Perry, Kurt Wolf, Samantha Haville, Neil Dale, Alex Tanksley and Chad
Aldridge. City Council members present were Bob Downing and Eileen Hession Weiss.
Community members present were Matt Bisciglia, Herb Denney, Marcia Denney, Evelyn
Bisciglia, Carlynn Smith, Mark Strader, Jack Walkey, Tom Barker, Jana Reinhart, Roger West,
Diane West, Jon Olds, Richard Murray, Marurie Denney, Jane Denney, Kristin Basciglia,
Emmett Bisciglia and Tom Bisciglia.
Election of Officers
• Upon motion by Mr. Mecklenburg, seconded by Ms. Abney and unanimously carried,
Matt Metzger was elected President.
• Upon motion by Mr. Metzger, seconded by Ms. Abney and unanimously carried, David
Mecklenburg was elected Vice-President.
• Upon motion by Mr. Mecklenburg, seconded by Ms. Abney and unanimously carried,
Siany Molina was elected Secretary.
• Upon motion by Mr. Metzger, seconded by Ms. Abney and unanimously carried, Jenny
Spencer was elected Recording Secretary.
Upon motion by Mr. Mecklenburg, seconded by Mr. Denney and unanimously carried, minutes
of the December 11, 2023, Parks Board meeting were approved.
Upon motion of Ms. Abney seconded by Mr. Mecklenburg, and unanimously carried, General
Fund Claims in the amount of $139,943.92, Non-Reverting Fund Claims in the amount of
$7,529.08 and Bond Fund claims in the amount of $460,609.38 for a total of $608,082.38 were
approved.
Superintendent’s Report:
• Deb Schmucker of Cornerstone PDS provided an update on the 5-year plan. The notes
from the DNR are being incorporated. A draft presentation will be ready for the February
board meeting to prepare for the April deadline.

• Marketing Manager Samantha Haville shared the success of the Reindeer Rendezvous
which both sessions sold out quickly. Donuts with Santa and the combined Winter
Market. The market had over twenty vendors while there were over 330 visitors to
Donuts with Santa. Upcoming for McAllister Rec Center is the Father/Daughter dance
on February 10. There are two sessions available, 2pm-4pm and 6pm-8pm. Registration
for the upcoming Summer Camp starts today with a 10% discount for those who sign up
in January. Ms.Haville completed her report with social media numbers for 2023, users
increased across all platforms.
• Director of Operations Miner updated on seasonal hiring. There are about 250 toal
seasonal positions to fill. Those will be posted online next week to being the seasonal
hiring process.
Project Updates:
- The walk-through at McCaw Park went well. Overall, a great job done by
contractor. The dedication will be held in the spring.
- The construction fence is up for the Commissary building project.
Waterworks will be on site followed by Renew in the coming weeks.
Upon motion by Mr. Mecklenburg, seconded by Ms. Abney, and unanimously carried,
Declaration of Worthless Property was approved (See Attachment A).
Communications:
• Board: Mr. Mecklenburg commended staff for Christmas activities at McAllister and
Columbian Park Zoo. Staff also thanked Mr. Mecklenburg for his jolly participation in
both events.

Superintendent Laufman recognized Maurie Denney as he steps down from the Parks Board with
a list of the substantial projects he has been a part of during his tenure. Mayor Roswarski
presented Mr. Denney with a special custom-made, hand-blown glass vase to recognize his
significant contributions to the Board and commemorate his lasting legacy in the community.
There being no further business to come before the Board, on motion of Ms. Abney, seconded by
Mr. Mecklenburg, and unanimously carried, the meeting adjourned at 4:25 pm.
