REGULAR MEETING OF THE LAFAYETTE PARKS AND RECREATION BOARD 4:00 pm 20 May 2024 The City of Lafayette Parks and Recreation Board met in regular meeting at 4:00pm, May 20, 2024. The meeting was held at Rush Pavilion in Columbian Park. The meeting was called to order by Park Boar President Matt Metzger. Board members present were Siany Molina and Jan Abney. Parks Superintendent Claudine Laufman, Director of Operations Jon Miner, City Attorney Jacque Chosnek and Recording Secretary Jenny Spencer were present. Parks staff members present were Mike Perry, John Terhune, Christine Hurley, Neil Dale, Samantha Haville and Alex Tanksley. Carla Whiteman and Tim Shriner from Woodfield Village HOA, City Council Member Eileen Hession Weiss and Kurt Wolf were alson present. Upon motion by Ms. Abney, seconded by Ms. Molina and unanimously carried, minutes of the April 15, 2024, Parks Board meeting were approved. Upon motion of Ms. Abney seconded by Ms. Molina, and unanimously carried, General Fund Claims in the amount of $49,651.94, Non-Reverting Fund Claims in the amount of $94,782.48 for a total of $144,434.42 were approved. Superintendent’s Report:  Superintendent Laufman invited new Parks Safety and Security Director, Christine Hurley to introduce herself. Ms. Hurley has thirty years of experience in the safety and security arena having retired as a Major with the United States Army.  Superintendent Laufman recognized maintenance staff member, John Terhune for his part in recognizing and reporting an unresponsive park patron. First responders shared that without timely care the outcome could have been dire.  Marketing Manager Samantha Haville shared that WLFI is having a weekly Park Spotlight in studio. So far spotlights have covered McAllister Rec Center programs, Long Center partnership for Loeb Stadium concerts and a zoo animal. Tomorrow will focus on the opening of the pools for the season. In addition, Ms. Haville shared that through a partnership with Visit Lafayette/West Lafayette the first 100 guests get free admission. Lastly, Ms. Haville provided a social media update.  Seasonal hiring went well, with just a few openings.  Ms. Laufman also commended all staff who contributed to getting the Memorial Day prep completed at Columbian Park. Park Board Minutes 5/20/24 Page 1 Project Updates: - McCaw Phase 2 has bids opening on July 11, 2024. - The Columbian Park Playground renovation continues with excitement building for the finished project. The project should wrap up during the second week in June with a big celebration being planned for the opening. Upon motion by Ms. Abney, seconded by Ms. Molina, the Maintenance Agreement between the LPR Board and Woodfield Village HOA was approved. See Attachment A. - The agreement will provide an increases presence on the south side of Lafayette. A brief discussion ensued with Ms. Whiteman and Mr. Shriner of the Woodfield HOA sharing their support of the agreement. Upon motion by Ms. Abney, seconded by Ms. Molina, the Rental Fees for Tropicanoe Cove Cabanas were approved. See Attachment B.
