Village of Lake Orion Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee Regular Meeting: Tuesday, March 24, 2026, 6:30 p.m. 1. Call to Order by the Chairperson The Tuesday, March 24, 2026, Regular Meeting of the Village of Lake Orion Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee was called to order at Village Hall by Rosemary Ford at 6:40pm. 2. Approval of Minutes Meeting Minutes – February 24, 2026 By Cristy Garbacik, RESOLVED: That the regular minutes of the February 24, 2026, meeting of the Parks & Recreation Advisory Committee be approved. Approval of Agenda By Cristy Garbacik, RESOLVED: To approve the Agenda of the Tuesday, March 24, 2026, Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee. Seconded by George Dandalides and adopted AYES: 3; NAYS: 0; ABSENT: 2. 6. Pending Business A. Parks Maintenance. An updated parks maintenance needs list is presented on a word document which is attached and incorporated as part of these minutes. Added: Children’s - Valentino’s grease bin is leaking into park (DPW contacted restaurant manager) Children’s - Green rubber mulch is needed in playground area. Children’s - Bench metal frames are rusted and broken (two = Gazebo and by Wine Social top) Removed: Meek’s – Tree fell in river (per DNR, the tree needs to stay for bank/root stabilization) 1  Village of Lake Orion Parks and Recreation Advisory Committee March 24, 2026, Regular Meeting Minutes B. Capital Improvement Plan An updated capital improvement plan is presented on an excel document which is attached and incorporated as part of these minutes. Troop 284 Community Service Scout Troop 284, with Scoutmaster Neil Garbacik, met at Atwater Park March 14 from 9:00-10:30am. They gathered sticks and cleaned up the area. They will continue to do community service at Children’s Park on Saturday, April 11 from 9:00- 10:30am. Cristy Garbacik will be in touch with DPW/Wes Sanchez with reminders and support. B. Eagle Project Logan Garbacik, from Scout Troop 284, worked with DPW Wes Sanchez and the Village Manager to agree on an Egale Project. He will update or repair the picnic tables at Children’s Park. C. Volunteer Days Rescheduled for next meeting. 8. Reports A. Children’s Shade Sails A reminder was shared with Wes Sanchez about the email George Dadalides sent to DPW on October 31, 2025 with CIP requests and a quote for purchasing shade sails from AAA State of Play for Children’s Park at $2,500 with posts. These will match the current ones in Children’s Park with Ocean Blue frames and Lime Shade Fabric. We would request DPW to assist with installation. B. Green’s Boat Bumpers George Dadalides proposed to meet with Wes Sanchez on March, 25th at Green’s Park to discuss the continued improvement of the docks. This includes, but is not limited to, leveling the docks, adding bumpers, adjusting cleats, fixing the floating dock for stability, and extending the docks by one section. Additionally requesting to work with John Jones from Walk on Water. C. Orion Township networking George Dadalides spoke with Aaron Whatley from Orion Twp. Parks and Rec. Aaron said he knows about agreeing to discuss how Orion Township could support the Village parks. Rosemary Ford and George Dadalides will coordinate their schedules to meet with Aaron in April to walk the Village Parks. D. Basketball Court On March 23, 2026 Village Council majority voted no on continuing to fund the basketball project. The Council then agreed to pay a portion ($60,000), and it was suggested to request the remaining funds from DDA; as this is in a DDA area. Council then suggested asking the DDA to fund the entire project.
