MINUTES CITY OF LAKE WORTH BEACH CITY COMMISSION WORKSHOP - CODE COMPLIANCE CITY HALL COMMISSION CHAMBER THURSDAY, MAY 07,2026 - 6:00 PM The meeting was called to order by Mayor Resch on the above date at 6:04 PM in the City Commission Chamber located at City Hall, 7 North Dixie Highway, Lake Worth Beach, Florida. ROLL CALL: Present were Mayor Betty Resell, Vice Mayor Mimi May and Commissioners Sarah Malega, Christopher McVoy and Anthony Segrich. Also present were Interim City Manager Troy Perry, City Attorney Glen J. Torcivia and Deputy City Clerk Shayla Ellis. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE: led by Commissioner Anthony Segrich UPDATES / FUTURE ACTION / DIRECTION A. Discussion of Code Compliance processes in Lake Worth Beach Vice Mayor May left at 7:20 PM and returned at 7:23 PM. Commissioner Malega left at 7:32 PM and returned at 7:35 PM. Mayor Resch passed the gavel and left at 7:48 PM then returned at 7:55 PM. Action: Consensus to have the city conduct the first use and occupancy inspection for a new business and then rely on the fire department for interior inspections eveiy three years following the original inspection. Action: Consensus to issue new tenants' business licenses even if the building owners have code violations that do not include life, health, and safety issues. Action: Consensus to have any policy changes for the code compliance process brought to the Commission for review before they are presented to the Planning and Zoning or Historic Resources Preservation Boards. Action: Consensus to give policy direction indicating that starting in August /September that bulk pick-up will be moved to the first week of the month. Action: Consensus to prevent the use of Google Earth for code compliance, not going back later than 5-years for violation issues when there is a change in ownership, and utilizing Google Streetview for reviewing code issues up to a 5-year timeframe. Compliance with the Rules of Decorum is expected and appreciated. If a person decides to appeal any decision made by the board, agency or commission with respect to any matter considered at such meeting or hearing, he or she will need a record of the proceedings, and that, for such purpose, he or she may need to ensure that a verbatim record of the proceedings is made, which record includes the testimony and evidence upon which the appeal is to be based.
