SPECIAL MEETING

Friday, September 11, 2009
1. CALL TO ORDER AND ROLL CALL
The meeting was called to order at 9:30 am
Present were Village President Branding, Clerk Dau, Trustees Halen, Johnson,
Poynton, Rzeznik, Sprawka and Sustich. Also present were Village Administrator
Vitas, Finance Director Zochowski, Police Chief Finlon, Fire Chief Mastandrea,
Human Resources Manager Pankiw, Public Works Director / Engineer Heyden,
Building & Zoning Director Peterson, Park and Recreation Director Perkins and
Village Attorney Burkland.
2. PLEDGE OF ALLEGIANCE
President Branding asked the meeting attendees to join her in a moment of
silence in observance of September 11.
3. STRATEGIC PLANNING RETREAT
President Branding welcomed everyone to the retreat and thanked the
department heads and their staff for all of the work done in preparation.
Dr. Greg Kuhn welcomed attendees and asked them to participate in an
introductory exercise. Results of this exercise can be viewed in Dr. Kuhn’s final
report.
There was a meeting break from 10:52am to 11:05am
The meeting resumed and attendees watched a video on leadership. Discussion
of the five lessons of leadership followed the presentation.
MOTION was made by Trustee Johnson, seconded by Trustee Sustich, to recess
the meeting.
Voice vote, all in favor.
MOTION CARRIED
The meeting recessed at 12:00pm
MOTION was made by Trustee Johnson, seconded by Trustee Sprawka, to
reconvene the meeting.
Voice vote, all in favor.

The attendees divided into smaller groups to do an exercise on a mission
statement for the Village of Lake Zurich. Results of this exercise can be viewed in
Dr. Kuhn’s final report.
There was a meeting break from 2:50pm to 3:00pm
Following the break, there was a discussion on core values.

4. ADJOURNMENT
MOTION was made by Trustee Poynton, seconded by Trustee Sustich, to
adjourn the meeting.
Voice vote, all in favor.
MOTION CARRIED
The meeting adjourned at 4:11 pm
