SPECIAL MEETING

Saturday, September 12, 2009
1. CALL TO ORDER AND ROLL CALL
The meeting was called to order at 8:32 am
Present were Village President Branding, Clerk Dau, Trustees Halen, Johnson,
Poynton, Rzeznik, Sprawka and Sustich. Also present were Village Administrator
Vitas, Finance Director Zochowski, Police Chief Finlon, Human Resources
Manager Pankiw, Public Works Director / Engineer Heyden, Building & Zoning
Director Peterson, Park and Recreation Director Perkins. Village Attorney
Burkland joined the meeting at 8:35am. Fire Chief Mastandrea joined the
meeting at 8:45am.
Police Chief Finlon reminded the meeting attendees of the Law Enforcement
Expo in Vernon Hills on September 12 and 13.
2. STRATEGIC PLANNING RETREAT
Dr. Greg Kuhn welcomed attendees to the second day of the strategic planning
retreat and asked them to divide into two teams and participate in the Tinker-toy
exercise. Results of this exercise can be viewed in Dr. Kuhn’s final report.
There was a meeting break from 9:20am to 9:25am
The meeting resumed and attendees participated in a vision exercise. Results of
this exercise can be viewed in Dr. Kuhn’s final report.
There was a meeting break from 10:55am to 11:10am
Attendees were asked to participate in surrender or lead exercise. Results of this
exercise can be viewed in Dr. Kuhn’s final report.
MOTION was made by Trustee Sustich, seconded by Trustee Johnson, to recess
the meeting at 12:02pm and reconvene at 12:45pm.
Voice vote, all in favor.
MOTION CARRIED

The meeting reconvened at 12:45pm
After reconvening, attendees worked together on a SWOT (Strengths,
Weaknesses, Opportunities, and Threats) analysis for the Village of Lake Zurich.

There was a meeting break from 1:20pm to 1:42pm
Following the break, there was an exercise to determine short-term goals for the
Village of Lake Zurich.
There was a meeting break from 2:52pm to 3:00pm
Following the break, there was an exercise to determine long-term goals for the
Village of Lake Zurich.
Dr. Kuhn and President Branding thanked everyone for participating.
3. ADJOURNMENT
MOTION was made by Trustee Johnson, seconded by Trustee Poynton, to
adjourn the meeting.
Voice vote, all in favor.
MOTION CARRIED
The meeting adjourned at 4:04 pm
